Not sure he would get a work permit for them. He hasn't been playing in Europe, has hardly played for Brazil and would be nowhere near one of their better paid players.

Can't they just decide to pay him whatever they want?

I'm sure they could also argue that he would have made further appearances for Brazil had Covid not happened. His first full cap was at the end of 2019.

I wonder if Pep leaving would help or hinder us keeping hold of him. Isn't he a big fan?

Of course they could pay him whatever they want but are they going to put him in the top 7-8 earners at the club just so he can get a work perit?

The bottom line is irrelevant, he hasn't played enough of Brazils games over the last 2 years to be considered a regular so he doesn't get the permit. On top of that the other major criteria is the signing fee, I suspect a fee was included in the buy back clause and that isn't enough to tip him into the higher band for the permit then I don't see them paying extra just to achieve that.

All said the chances are he'd not get a permit again so if Man City resign him it's with the intention of him going out on loan and that loan couldn't be to an English club so his choices would be to stay with us and help us get back up, to see if he can push for a move to another English club (but it would have to be one of the bottom half teams really) or to go back to Man City and go out on loan to Spain/Italy.

I think there's a decent chance he stays so long as we keep most of this squad together and get early business done.  Of course I also don't think we're as certain to go down as many are suggesting so for me this is a hypothetical question any way.

Good again today. My god I wish the others had his heart. Man City will buy him back for £15m and make a fortune.

My player of the season if I'm honest. Been a big fan. He scored some great goals and one or two vital goals that kept us alive.

He made mistakes, yes, but he turned 22 in May so as a 21 year old in a relegation threatened team he did much better than one or two others who should be hanging their heads in shame.

He's scored a sum total of 3 goals this season*

I agree with the general message though.

*(The same number as Conor Hourihane, FWIW).

He's a very good footballer.  Just about the only piece of transfer business this season that could be considered a success.

As others have said, he's one of few that hasn't sunk without trace despite being a kid. Not a hope he won't get snapped up if we go down.

Do we actually know what the Man City clause is?

I think I read somewhere that it is a two year clause.  I think Man City have to match the bid made by the other club in order to buy him back. I agree with others, this has been the one bit of decent business done by the club.

Well if that is the case at least we would get decent money for him.

He's ten times the player without the ball than Hourihane is. And braver on it, Conor's occasional howitzers and set-pieces notwithstanding.

So £11m towards FFP.

We'll have to rebuild if we go down, but with parachute payments and significant funds coming in (Jack being 100% by virtue of being home grown) then we get a free swing at it.

We will always be able to attract the best players. Great opportunity for a 1 season stay.

The Championship, even for a one year stint, further diminishes this fine club.
