I can only assume Nanny McPhee put his footdown, and said his one working set-piece had to stay

Can only be good news - even if it just means we get more money for him.

Think hes a good player - but still no idea how we create a functioning midfield out of our current lot.  I think some of that is shoe-horning Ramsey and McGinn in but not using them to their strength.

It’s good news, he has shown that he can be a very good player on his day.
He needs to get more consistent and when he sits with another 6 he is very effective.

Fabian Delph is still a ******, and there is no defence for the way he behaved. Nobody criticised him for leaving, it was the mannger of his departure. But please feel free to continue that debate on the Delph thread or the former players one rather than trying to turn one of the few bits of good news we've had into a rehash of an argument you've already lost.
Not lost by any means CD.  I didn't bring up the buy-out clause speculation, I really hope there isn't one.

Glad he's staying, he's a good player and very professional. Linked up well with Kamara, I thought.

I'd be tempted to bung Nakamba in at defensive midfield until Kamara is back.

How would one pronounce the accent you've put in there? I thought it was a bit of dust on my screen at first

Yeah, me too. Lets face it, we played our best football by miles under this manager when he was in the team. Plus there was a thrill of danger when he had the ball at his feet that would at least liven up the viewing experience.

I think he gives a balance to the midfield albeit in a limited way.  I think Luiz, Ramsey and Nakamba is better balanced

I think he brings a bit of trust, he's so doggedly defensively minded the other players have a bit more freedom to play forward, and are less inclined to maybe pass the ball backwards to him!

Jesus now we are stuck with him. I think he is crap
Thats a remarkable take.

So someone please tell me after 3/4 years of him playing pretty regularly in a multitude of positions - which is his best one?  Because i could not tell you.

I think he is slow and this slows down all our play from front to back, he loses possession a lot and then when he does usually goes down like he has been poleaxed. He has now the novelty of scoring from a corner but this masks his overall shitness from deadballs we have watched for last few years.

Him and McGinn are the fundamental reasons for our piss poor midfield - in my opinion

Aye. Our best form under SG was with Nakamba in the middle during that early period.  Odd SG hasn't even looked at it again since his return to fitness.

Perhaps he signed the new contract knowing there's likely to be managerial departures soon.....?

No 8.

He's the best passer of any of our midfielders by some distance and given proper gametime in the role I'm confident he'll show what he can do.
