Given this thread a bump from lingering near the bottom of page 2.
My player of the season to date. Defensively we are now better than at any other time under Unai.
Only Arsenal and Man City have conceded less this season. We've conceded 7 less than Liverpool.
Virgil van Dijk ? Nah, I'd rather have Ezri.

He's been really superb. Player of the season so far is between him and McGinn.

Agree
The defence is looking really settled and who knew Matty Cash as well

Agreed. Posted it in the Cash thread earlier, but he's gone to the next level.

He’s been incredible of late. He’s gained an extra level of calmness and maturity to his game.

Not really a Konsa thing, but here seems as appropriate a place as any

Quote
Ezri Konsa is set to start his 100th Premier League game at Villa Park today, becoming the ninth player to do so in the competition for #AVFC:

177 - Gareth Barry
140 - Gabriel Agbonlahor
126 - Alan Wright
115 - Steve Staunton
113 - Olof Mellberg
109 - Ugo Ehiogu
102 - Lee Hendrie
101 - John McGinn
99 - Ezri Konsa

That's quite mediocre isn't it? Around five and a half seasons is enough to mean you're either too good and are sold, or too rubbish and you're binned off. Over the last three decades of football.

No slight on Ezri or any of the current crop (or even any individual in the list above, all of whom had moments of greatness at the very least), more the overall state of the club for the last thirty years.

...or players choose to move on, as they can these days.

What about Emi Goodday? As an Italophile and a purist, don't you dig il fantasista dell' Aston Villa?

Didn't start the game too well, but otherwise he was fine. Made a few important blocks when the pressure came on after the break.

My inner italophile is loving our efficient offside trap and smooth flattening of opposition attacks! Plus Lil Emi's come good but a bit more gradually, whereas Konsa and McGinn practically dragged us through that rough early patch.

Konsa's form was brutal early on! Sent off v Newcastle and dreadful v Palace and Everton. From memory that Brentford cup game was when his form started turning around. Torres had a solid game that night too.

McGinn and yes...Matty Cash have been our two best so far I reckon. Both had solid second half performances in that draw at Everton, might not be the worst result that one.

It could explain why Konsa has improved so much this season.

(Rashford, not Konsa but he was wearing a pair as well)
