Glad he didnt get injured, but what was the point in picking him. Southgate might need him at some point in the next 9 month, so any sensible manager would have given him at least 30mins after picking him.

Because Southgate is a colossal twat?

I think he wanted him along for 'the experience of being amongst the squad'. He's come out with similar bollocks before but when you consider that Konsa isn't a kid, he's got loads of experience for his age and even in Europe now, he did start an 18 year old (Man City player surprise), we'd already qualified anyway and were playing a mediocre team and he could have played instead of that colossal twat Maguire (we'll never win anything whilst he's in the team), then it beggars belief that he didn't get at least half an hour.

For a start, Konsa was a late replacement so minutes were already unlikely.

Also, looking at Dunk and Tomori in recent history, their first call ups also didn't give them any game time and their first caps came in subsequent international breaks in which there were friendlies so the March 2024 break looks more likely for Konsa to get a cap if he can leapfrog a couple or if there are injuries to others.

I hope he tells them they won't kick a ball when called up for the first time...

Why would he? This is elite football not Dave Average paying a tenner a week and driving across the region to sit on the bench against the Dog and Duck

A shame a player in prime form wasn't picked in his best position in favour of a clod being played out of position.

Still, I suppose Southgate's a genius, like Pep.

F*cking immense.
He is another with great composure.
He must have massive pockets to hold all those forwards.

Played his role specifically and understood instructions in the defence perfectly.  Literally had Foden one time glide away from him in first half but like the central defenders was brilliant in his play on the ball, positionally and discipline.
Excellent choice by Emery at right back. Fair play to Konsa yesterday . Outstanding.

Southgate's next excuse will be that Konsa is a RB and he has loads of competition there!
