Seems to be suffering from not having JT working with the defence this season.

I think that if anything we have far too many 'football' coaches at the moment, which might be confusing things at the training ground!
think you have a point  there.

Did you see Tottenham entourage on Saturday?. They took up half the lower trinity. Seems you can’t have too many staff.

I think he's another who is suffering with the new system.

I have no idea what has happened to him but it seems a stretch to blame a new system for him making elementary mistakes in match after match. I like to think of it as a temporary loss of form which can happen to anyone but he, judged by his own previous high standards, has been poor all season

I think Mings and Konsa are both having to worry about the flanks more and getting pulled (or worry about getting pulled) out of position because the midfielders aren't good at it. They are just too exposed. That header yesterday, however, was just weak, his slip last week was crap and he didn't react quickly enough to another effort.

But we're all over the shop.

I don't think it's right to blame the system, Konsa was really poor at the start of the season as well (under Smith) and his loss of form was a big part of why we couldn't buy a clean sheet. He did play a bit better for a while after Gerrard arrived but he's dropped off again and, for me, shouldn't be in the team right now, I honestly think you could fault him for 4 of the last 6 goals we've conceded, which just isn't good enough. What I can't get my head around is what has caused it, because at the end of last season he looked for all the world like he was a top 6 defender who'd be walking into the england squad for the world cup.

The early mistakes by Konsa in both halves were too soon to be as a result of any systemic failure, and were purely down to him making mistakes and not doing his job properly. I think he's a good player, but he's in woeful form and should be dropped. Chambers did well when he came in before, so let's give him a chance.

And you could tell Chambers was relishing playing for us.
It must be gutting to get dropped and see Konsa half arsed attempts at defending.

Feel bad for Hause. Signs a new deal in Jan, Gerrard bigging him up about being an important player. Yes, he's got an extra 10k a week in the bank, but the guy wants to play. Didn't he post something on the 'gram about it all being part of God's plan? Wish God was as generous to me...but yeah, in Digne's absence, I'd give Kourt the left back berth over Ashley "angry child" Young.

Clearly Konsa's confidence is shot. Why isn't Chambers playing instead? Gerrard does seem to keep picking out-of-form players in when they need to be dropped. Hause is another example who should be given a chance. I've generally supported SG since he came in, but I'm beginning to have my doubts....

It looked a bad tackle on Ezri by Mateta. His knee was twisted to an abnormal angle. I expect SG will tell us the extent of the problem in the presser this afternoon. If it's a longterm absence, Villa will definitely have to recruit a top class defender in the summer transfer window.

It was one of a number of clumsy challenges by Palace that the ref waved away.

SG has confirmed the knee injury, thankfully it's not an ACL. But, he will be missing for up to 16 weeks, which means the end of August into September. So a new signing will be incoming....

Well he won't be leaving in the summer then.

Chambers will get the opportunity to make the shirt his own I guess.

Bad news, out for 16 weeks apparently. https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2022/may/18/konsa-ruled-out-for-up-to-16-weeks/
FFS.  Thats probably £25-£30m of our transfer budget up in smoke.

I don’t see why it’s up in smoke. I imagine given the mistakes we’ve made in that position we’d have bought another CB anyway. Konsa/Mings/Chambers/Hause is mid table at best. We need to upgrade one or two of those players to compete for a top 8 spot let alone anything higher.
