In fairness to Bananaman, that ''Hollywood pass'' of his was a recurring feature of Wednesday's best moments yesterday. There were also a couple of nice back-flicks/give and goes from Bannan, not sure if he's usually as consistent and eye-catching as that but he always seems to be up for playing us, understandably I guess.

Interesting to contrast his styles with the more high-octane energy of McGinn and the technique and ball-carrying excellence of Grealish. I guess Whelan's ability to spray long passes into dangerous areas would be the closest to Bannan's game. Ironically it was a centre-back, Mings, who played the best one of the game for McGinn's goal.

Have to say I loved Uncle Albert's walking-stick celebration, anyone know if there's a background story to that?

And the official highlights doesn't show uninterrupted footage from our second to third goals - I think TV posted a clip from Pravda's live coverage with Tony Daley on co-comms and it's just fantastic to watch two minutes of goalscoring Villa and unbridled joy. Can't remember seeing us score goals in such quick succession after winning possession from the restart and grabbing another one. Wonderful build-up for Tammy's goal too.

Uncle Albert was taking the Mickey out of wor Bruce with his celebration, as he tried to force him out.

Before yesterday has there ever been a manager who has been on the losing end of the same fixture twice in a season, managing different teams?

Yes, Paul Cook.

Given what PH and their fans have been alleging, I was wondering if maybe the Villa youtube highlights might be a tad biased. So, in the interests of impartiality, I'm about to watch the official SWFC version. 4 mimutes longer, I therefore assume it must contain the missing footage of Steer making save after save.

20 seconds in, and they can fuck off into that stinking shit pit that I'd like to consign most sides that play in blue to. Fucking throbber.

Here, if you want to put your foot through the telly

to be fair . Villa were getting on top for 5 minutes before and created a lot more than wednesday with Kodjia crap volley and a good chance when AA broke but played the wrong ball.

Great day out with the NW  Lions.  Mason Arms top notch, proper sawdust pub.  The tram ride too and back no different to previous seasons rammed and always one or two dickheads on them.

The ground remains a shithole and is even worse for obstructed views than  Bramhall Lane.

As for the game, Bannon again had a great game against us.  We were leggy throughout and Tammy looked to be carrying a knock wasn't waving his  arms about like his  usual style dictates.

Apart from the goals had one great cross in from the right by Jack and Kodja being  Kodja just had to try to be George Best  instead of  heading in his chance.  McGinn was outstanding in driving the play on which he had to be as Bruce  did a job on Grealish.

I still think we need to up it if we are going to get promoted.

Got back at 11pm pretty happy...….

Could someone who went to the game provide individual marks for each player please, or give an indication as to how each one played? Many thanks.
Here's a view:
Steer - 7: did everything asked of him, including the penalty-save.
Elmo - 5: him, Green and Hause were a mess on the SW goal. Generally did okay, but not for the long-term.
Taylor - 5: did nothing particularly wrong but doesn't get down the line enough
Mings - 6: not his best game, giving away the penalty and there were one or two passes that went dangerously straight to an oppo striker. His pass for our first goal was, however, sublime.
Hause - 6: looked comfortable until his injury. Both him and Mings were playing against very physical and experienced strikers and both dealt with them; just.
Whelan - 6: looked leggy early, but did some good covering work and broke up play at important times.
SJM - 8: wonderfully mobile, even if he didn't nail down Bannan, as I thought he might have done. What a goal!
SJG - 6: not his best game, by  a long way. I personally think Bannan bettered him.
Green - 4: apart from the chase and pass for our first, he was poor - didn't cover back enough and wasn't proactive enough* when we had the ball
Abraham - 6: did okay with what he got ... which was, not enough
El Ghazi - 5: did okay but - like Green - not proactive enough*

Tuanzebe - 6: difficult coming into this game after a long lay-off; understandably cautious with the ball but did okay.
Adomah - 7: I'm not a fan of AA, but - yes - he did well when he came on!
Kodjia - 6: apart from a ridiculous volley at the far post (when a header would have been more effective), he did okay in the short time he was on.

The noise from the Villa fans was really, really impressive today: a solid wall of sound for much of the game.

* for me, being "more proactive" means moving into space at pace rather than standing on the touchline waiting for the ball (because when it arrives the only real option is to pass it back to the full back). There are times when both Green and El Ghazi show real promise, but it really is only in short flashes.

Will Hourihane get back in ahead of Whelan?

Just home. One of those away trips I’ll remember for many a year, it was that good; not the match per se, but the atmosphere and general feeling that it meant something special. I get a feeling we are about to go on a rather good trip.

Night all.
being in aus and not having fox sports, I have taken to watching the Villa on tour blog. The kid that does it said there were 4,500 Villa fans at H’boro. The atmosphere looked pretty awesome in the Villa end.

I can’t help wondering if Sheffield Weds may now be regretting letting us have so many tickets- as it sounded to me like the match was being played at Villa Park. I know it’s a well-worn cliche, but it really does seem that our away fans are like a 12th man / 1 goal headstart most matches.
