All ifs and buts, but this current squad and DS in charge all season and we'd have been promoted already. And PH can get to fucking fuck, but ultimately, if he'd picked up a few more wins during that run he'd probably still be here. So thank fuck he was shit and so we now appear to be a club that isn't 20 years out of date.

Amen to that.

Think next season the standard will be weaker. Huddersfield have a really poor squad so they'll be mid table at best and Cardiff overachieved to get promoted so think they'll only be challenging for play offs. Fulham is the one I don't really have a clue as they'll massively change their squad. Swansea came down in similar state and they haven't troubled the top 6 at any point.

Of course we don't know which of the established teams down here will seriously challenge like Leeds and Norwich have done but I really fancy our chances for top 2 next year if we don't make it this season.

Only problem is losing the core of the team!

Exactly, which is why we need to make the most of our unexpected opportunity.

Norwich might not even make 90 points at this rate. Could yet come to VP still needing something on the final day.

It often doesn't, i'm sure when I looked up various points totals last season someone went up in second a few years ago with something daft like 79 points. But no one has ever hit 90 and not gone up which is why it's the target.

Hull under Bruce in 2013.  79 points and auto promoted.  It's contributed to his "promotion expert" mystique when in some seasons it would barely be enough to make the play-offs.

Good, lets leave our mark all over this division as we march gloriously to our destiny.

Bring them all on.

Just been looking at the table again and a win for us on Monday coupled with any two of Boro, Brizzle C and Derby dropping points sees us guaranteed top 6.

Edit: talking shite. If Boro win and Brizzle C draw they would both still be capable of overtaking us.

I guess we just win and see how the rest goes.

On the 38th anniversary of this legendary quote, it seemed rather appropriate to update it.

Superb. Nicked and new laptop wallpaper created. Thanks

Ps exigo - you are now a W short and do you have that pic without the W’s by any chance?

My view is that we won't lose again this season - or post season. We just seem to have that desire about us.

I'm predicting a win and 2 draws in the last 3 and then 2 wins and a draw in the play offs.

Agree, Richard. The only team that can beat us at the moment is ourselves, and Smith seems resolute in making sure that that doesn't happen.

Got back from Bolton too late, tired and pissed to do it last night. But here's the club-record-equalling update.

I think it depends how Smith sets up the team for the run in.
He may decide to rest and rotate, he may want to keep the momentum going all the way to the play offs.
Leeds will be extremely aggressive and I will want it more than us if as I believe our play off position will be secure by then.

Leeds utd have been failing for years .
They have shown this season too despite some great stuff by them how ordinary they can be but also that they panic , struggle with temperament and  have shown like sheff utd a struggle under pressure . The consistency and the beautiful football has been with Norwich and I applaud them again for last night and what they have done.
They are a recent premier League club as are Middlesbrough WBA and ourselves
Derby county have consistently been around play offs and been in prem more recently than Sheffield utd and Leeds. Bristol city shown very capable again this season and I can acknowledge that .
Sheffield utd- I really admire wilder and how he has approached things as much and the expectations (outside of Sheffield)aren't as high as Leeds but reality they are both capable of being 2nd or 3rd

I quite agree though the players we have and the way we are playing plus the overall squad is hard to compare to an of the teams around us I just think we have a superb quality that is fitting to be premier League.

I don't know what state Leeds utd will be in on Sunday 28th may And also importantly there fans. They been shouting for years and been through a lot of difficult times. I think they should just accept a play off place is actually a success.
I sure they  will have to push for a win however both them and sheff utd have blown chances to cement 2nd.
On the Leeds utd it could well be a show down for the final come may at elland road however I liking idea of lampards Derby county beating bielsa lot in other semi as karma for the spy stuff .

Really we have a great chance of being promoted. And it's not just out support that sees it as a reality which also says a lot. The in form team with some major players in this league.
We can really look forward to the next 3 matches of season and that's really the key.
Villa faithful expectations are being met and that there is a refreshed look at things pre matches that basically we are so much more positive .

The playing squad and coaching staff have made us all look at things with this optimism and say a Wembley final comes I feel who ever villa play there is a good chance of winning.
One of those factors is the abundance of chances and that Smith philosophy is to outscore opponents and win football matches.
Play off semi and cup football require a slightly different approach perhaps but I think the beauty is that Smith will look to win both legs of semi.
The defence is seemingly a lot more settled and I think we all feel a lot more composure has been added with the balance of left sides minger.
I do like hearing Hutton and Chester are getting back to fitness and these 3 remaining games feel they should be involved for match exposure when Smith feels right . Despite my major concerns on steer I can accept that he's the man in nets and have to back him. I hope he doesn't make any howling errors in the play offs . Similar with certain player getting suspended. Villa have squad to work around it but still.
Anyway  in all there is a lot more confidence all round about our chances that there has been at any point this season - well for me anyway.
So answering that question I can still keep saying yes we have a chance!

Thanks a lot. Yes agreed, if you could do one at the end of the season would be great.
