We've seen how cautious Emery is when re-introducing players, and understandably so. If he is fit, I don't see him being introduced for an hour straight away. More likely to be 30/45/60 minutes first in games. We're probably looking more at the Wolves home game to be starting him, which is straight after the first Champions League game and the first international break.

Wasn't Buendia back on the grass before the end of last season? The most likely explanation here is the most obvious one. As others have said, Mings isn't as close to returning as some would hope.

If he's back in the match-day squad before the end of September, I'd be surprised, but that would still be just over a year, which isn't that bad for an ACL in someone his age (he'll be 32 this season).  The risk, of course, is that he gets back match-fit, but he's lost a yard, which could be injury-related, or just the fact that he's a little bit older now.  Pre-injury Tyrone would be an asset to our squad, no question.

I am keeping everything crossed that he can come back and play a meaningful part in our season - he's obviously such a well-liked and well-regarded member of the squad, and a very good player when 100% fit.  But the longer it goes, the more I worry that he might not be able to get back to the level now required.

I'd have thought Wolves away in Feb is more realistic than that.

Depends on who you choose to believe as to where he is with his fitness. We don't seem to be very proactive with getting a centre back in, which you would think we would be if he was miles off it.

Think we need to replace Carlos with someone better as priority. Need Mings "on the grass" asap but it's a bit worrying now given our recent record with injured players.

So you’ve ruled out both Swinkels and Feeney as back up then? I suspect SUE is looking at both of them this preseason before he makes his decision

i was surprised to see that fantastic week beat C115y and Arsenal back to back without conceding it was Carlos / Torres as CB's . I think its concentration levels with DC he seems to have too many lapses and plays a few risky passes .

i was surprised to see that fantastic week beat C115y and Arsenal back to back without conceding it was Carlos / Torres as CB's . I think its concentration levels with DC he seems to have too many lapses and plays a few risky passes .

I think he's ok if he has a central striker to mark, Konsa/Torres struggle a bit there. But there were so many other games Carlos played where he just spread chaos, even that game v Chelsea at VP, he must have only been on 10 mins. You can't play a high line with him either, was it Everton he tried to play offside in their half and let their forward in through on goal. He's rash in about every facet of his play. For a big unit, he's not that dominant in the air and he's average with the ball too.

And yet he plays in the combination of defenders that concedes less goals than other combinations, which is kind of the point of the defence, despite always being picked against the best oppositions.
