Not claiming to be ITK ;) but a mate runs TMA (Tyrone Mings Academy). I spoke to him about 10 days ago and he said Tyrone is fully fit and ready to start pre-season.

He added that Tyrone's been told that he will feature from the start - provided no injury issues - though he will only play one game a week, so he will be rotated when there are CL games. UTV

I'd hope that's true for most of the squad next season, we have some serious depth now and really need to make the most of it.
When I asked about who Ty would partner, he said Torres was signed to play LB - which seems less credible now we appear to be collecting LBs.

Though Torres did start a few games there when he was first in the team. I assumed that was because it was felt he needed to get used to the physicality of the PL and that was more likely at LB, rather than up against a (typically) bigger striker. UTV.

Pretty sure they stagger it as they are having fitness tests. So they will test a certain number and then release them to other things while they test the next lot.

It's not uncommon for the pictures to only show some of the squad, as it will just be the group that are about at the time.

I doubt it is anything to worry about (although certain people will). Pretty much most of the pictures had Mings doing the same as the rest of the team as well (weights, bike, steps etc). It was only what seemed to be the jog around the pitch which he wasn't pictured on but there were probably others missing from that as well.

I suppose if we went 3 at the back
Konsa (right) Mings (centre) Torres (left) would be an option

Or Konsa continues at RB, in our progressive LB system. With Mings and Torres as the CB pair.

The point is that we have options.

Stating the obvious, but I really hope he comes back as strong as before the injury. Among all of the players in the squad him and McGinn have been on the ride for a while and have been so important to our improvements, and it'd be great to see them both playing in the CL.

A whole season is a long time to be out for any player.  If you assume Diego Carlos is likely to be off, we still need at least one more central defender to come in (and maybe two if Mings has any kind of set backs which isn't beyond the realms of likeliness).

I don't want Pau at left back and I don't want Mings as starting left centre back.  As we saw last year, it is very much a squad game now and he will be needed, just maybe not in the strongest starting 11.

Yep i agree with this. They are both CBs.  Its just like Konsa i dont want him at RB he is a very good CB he should remain them.

Our manager seems to see it differently.

I think he looks for flexibility in the defensive shape depending on who we are playing and also within games, for example one of the full backs being more attacking minded. Next season with more options available to him we may see further variations.

The manager likes 3 players defending centrally. It's usually Kamara who drops in, but equally that could be Konsa on the right full back slot.

You night not like it, but that occupation of space is what we reverted to after Anfield and we were one of the best sides in the country with that function in our system.

I think Konsa playing right back was more a reaction to the loss of Kamara, and was Unai trying to tighten things up. Our defensive performance was a lot poorer after Boubacar was injured, and while he was missing we averaged nearly two goals a game against, and only 5 teams conceded more goals.

The flip side being our ‘23 form would have been 2nd 👍

It was clear to see that if we had prepared better for the loss of crucial players at crucial times (not clubs fault as i don't think many of us thought we would be considered title challenger outsiders at Christmas and in the 4th hunt until final day) but it definately hurt us

I am sure this year we will learn from that
