With Carlos back soon he will provide a strong option from the bnch next season. Absolute nonsense. I take it you haven't seen the stats? He'll be playing alongside Carlos next season.

I like Mings as a person. And as a footballer he has a lot of qualities. However, one of his worst qualities is his composure. And the way Emery seems to want to play, we need composure at the back. So unless Mings has agreed to be a backup, or the contract extension is just so we can get some decent money for hum when he is sold, this contract extension is a mistake. For me, we need to start rebuilding the squad from the back. Its probably one of the most important areas if the manager wants to play out from the back. The current lot simply cannot do it because they lack the qualities needed to do the job well.

Absolute nonsense. I take it you haven't seen the stats? He'll be playing alongside Carlos next season. The stats are pretty meaningless without context though. Generally when he's not played, the back ups have either been Hause or Chambers. Hause is a big immobile carthorse, and Chambers is just rubbish. What the stat really tells you is that we haven't invested sufficiently since we've been back in the Premier League to make sure we've got adequate back ups. Good for him on getting his new contract, but he's been the mainstay of a team that's never finished higher than 11th. If we want to improve on that, then at the very least we need some better central defenders to challenge him for the position.
If it is three and a half years as Gregg Evans says, that seems like a long old extension. He'll be 33 by then. Surely Emery's style is going to be different to a "blood and thunder" typical physical British centre half? For all his qualities Mings isn't much of a ball player.
