Rightly or wrongly, felt there were something not quite right with squad unity for the duration of last season. This latest treatment of Mings does nothing to diminish this feeling.

Mings is internationally synonymous amongst racist dickheads now with mistakes

The ‘he’s always got a rick in him’ comment really boils my piss.

It a lazy, contrived comment because there is actually very little to criticise the player about and specific examples are hard to find. But throw in a meaninglessness few words of bullshit and hey presto you’re  a football commentator.

I’ve posted on here many times my reasons for defending Mings and why I think he’s a massive asset and credit to the club.

I hope the manager realises soon that he has ‘made a rick’

It's really not that hard to find a rick from Mings. I'm not saying that Konsa is the answer, but let's not pretend that a whole load of goals didn't come from a Mings fuck up last season.

He'd have blocked their first yesterday. Not one player threw themselves at the ball , they all turned away or meekly stuck a leg out.

I hope Gerrard is big enough to admit to his error at leaving Mings out yesterday, but somehow I doubt it. Even worse was to play Konsa, who was mostly poor last season. Do you remember the Spurs home game Steven?

I think the feeling is that we've got a better defender in Carlos now, so we need somebody with better distribution than Mings, whose first thought is always just a big aimless punt. I'd have gone with Carlos and Chambers myself.

I am sure Mings has saved/prevented far more goals against than he has been directly responsible for giving away.
that’s sort of his job.

As a striker's is to score, but they miss sometimes. A keeper's is to save goals, but they concede etc.

Yes the problem is that Mings does make mistakes, but a lot of that is down to him trying to carry the ball out of defence. I don’t know what Carlos is like with that, but even when Konsa has looked good he’s always played it very safe.

Set up was wrong at the back
They have bruisers in their team Billings etc
We stood rooted to the spot for the first, Mings should have played
Maybe he has a new CH lined up, yesterdays pairing did not work

Mings is a better defender than Konsa, he should be picked ahead of him . That was pathetic yesterday, the second goal especially with nobody challenging Moore in the air to head the ball away with three defenders near him standing on the spot ball watching.

Just like last season I was full of hope before the first game to be totally deflated after a pathetic performance against a club on paper man for man we are better, but look devoid of shape and ability.

Probably not a good omen to drop Mings. DS did this before and was sacked not long after!

Fair point.   However, I don't recall Smith publicly criticising his commitment afterwards.

Sometimes you need to have good people skills.  Something Gerrard seems to lack somewhat.

When interviewed after the game and was asked about Mings, Gerrard's reply was "When Tyrone is back at his best and looks at me in the eye and shows me hes ready to play he'll get opportunities".

This sounds different to how we were told Mings took the Captaincy change and what his attitude was like.

I think it's the visible effort that can be seen with the throwing the body on the line and basically making attempts at blocking things.

Did he really say that?
Bloody hell, that’s effectively questioning the professionalism of one of the most professional of players.

Huge difference in fans suggesting that Mings makes the odd fuck up, to a Manager making those sort of comments about a very well liked and respected player.

It seems like a bit of a power thing. Maybe a lot of the players looked up to Mings and he spoke out on their behalf, maybe Gerrard didn't like that Mings was pretty much the face of Aston Villa, and he'd rather it was 'Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa'

Maybe that's all bollocks and he just doesn't rate him, but seems to be making a bit of an unnecessary scene where it wasn't needed.

Mings doesn't strike me as the kind of person to sulk and not voice his opinion to Gerrard and look him in the eye, if that's what he's being challenged to do. And if Mings looked Gerrard in the eye, Gerrard would probably shit himself.  All very strange.

He might not be a top 6 defender, but neither are any of our others. Too early to say with Carlos.

It sounds like Mings has had a sulk. Hopefully the splinters will have rearranged his priorities and his focus will be back for next week.
