Mings loses concentration too often and he spends most of his time hoofing hopeful balls down the left channel. There's no denying his distribution is iffy, and when he's in possession with an opponent in the vicinity, he scares the crap out of me.

On the other hand, he's a brilliant defender when it comes to the last ditch stuff. The problem is, we're aiming to be a side that dominates and so doesn't usually require much in the way of last ditch blocks and tackles.

He's fine for where we are, not so much for where we are aiming to be.

Good point by John. Every time this bloke doesn't play we look all over the shop at the back. He is a good defender, every player makes errors, his are being highlighted. We are simply a better team with him in it.

It's a major fuck up to strip him of captaincy and drop him; there must be something behind the scenes otherwise it's that bad a decision it makes me question the managers competence.

Mings isn't the answer to our progress over the future but it is too big a decision too soon to leave him out of the side.
To just drop in Carlos was also too big a decision and he needed Mings alongside yesterday.
Gerrard binned all that experience and leadership.
Big call from Gerrard to bomb him out and that change alone needed a strong performance and a positive result and we got neither.
They are the managers calls and he lives or dies by it but he's heaped the pressure on and now the Everton game is so much bigger than it should have been.
I'd play Mings next week but sadly can see him playing elsewhere.

I am sure Mings has saved/prevented far more goals against than he has been directly responsible for giving away.

that’s sort of his job.

As things stand, Ming's is the best defender at the club. Our results with & without him are clear.

We don't know what's going on behind the scenes but I wouldn't be surprised to see him move elsewhere over the next 3 weeks.

Where are the stats for this? He's only missed a handful of games over the last two seasons, so I'd be very surprised is there was much of an obvious correlation.

He's fine for where we are, not so much for where we are aiming to be.

I take it by this phrase you mean the top 6 or higher?
The reality is that if we do make it to the higher echelons of the pl it will be with players like Mings, Watkins etc. and young players coming through making up the majority of the team.
There aren't many ambitious players who feel they are top 6 who are willing to drop down to a lower-mid table team unless silly money is being talked about.
We're going to need players like Mings playing out of their skins to push on from the 11th placed finish they've already managed and then once we reach the top 6 we'll be in a great position to attract the players we're aiming for.
Taking the captaincy off Mings and then dropping him intimating b/s is not the way to do it, not least because of the impact it may have on the rest of the squad.

I think he's got the stats the wrong way round where it says we concede 2.0 with him and 1.4 without him. No chance we've conceded 2 a game for 3 seasons.

We conceded 4 at home to West Ham when Smith dropped Mings last season.

I hope Gerrard is big enough to admit to his error at leaving Mings out yesterday, but somehow I doubt it. Even worse was to play Konsa, who was mostly poor last season. Do you remember the Spurs home game Stevie?

Yes he must have done, particularly as it doesn't prove the point he is making

He'll likely be back next week and we'll have two brusiers at the back against that ex-Stripey whose about as mobile as a static caravan.

Which makes the decision even more baffling...
