I think he'll be back in v Everton, don't see Konsa-Carlos being a great partnership anyway.

Should never have been dropped for today's game!
I certainly don't question Tyrone's commitment to Villa, but I do question the manager's.

I have to admit that I thought the appointment of McGinn as captain was a good move. How wrong I was! He showed no leadership today, and on top of that he had a dreadful game. We certainly missed Mings's physical presence in the box and his marshalling of his defence. He should return against Everton and he'll organise the defence even if he isn't captain (as he did for over a year when Grealish was nominally captain).

Our defence was awful today but Mings has been part of shoddy defences for ages too. On his day he's a giant but he is internationally synonymous now with mistakes, bad control, poor passes and those - putting it kindly - idealistic punts to the opposite corner flag.

I don't particularly blame Gerrard for dropping him but his replacements need to have stepped up to justify the exclusion. Otherwise it's just pointless. All today did was show that Mings is still the best defender at the club. Which is worrying.

Mings isn't good enough for us to improve upon what we've been so far.

All hail the conquering Gerrard. Achiever of 14th place, and runner-up to St Johnstone. We're lucky to have him.

OK?

You're in the Mings thread.

Watkins
Mings
McGinn

They all have their day and can be brilliant. But by and large they have a very ordinary at best day and when that's your spine, is it a surprise that you deliver mediocrity? They're just not top 8 players, any of them, for an abundance of reasons.

Scotland captain (4 times) and two England internationals and we're shit as a result.

I’d rather have Mings making the odd mistake whilst attacking every ball and organising the defence than the way Konsa has played pretty much since crowds came back.

Whilst Carlos is settling in I’d much rather see him alongside Mings

Completely agree.

Kenny Miller play 69 times for Scotland and scored 18 goals. I'm left wondering what your point is?

They're not top 8 players, is mine. They lack consistency as a collective across a number of issues. We rely on them, we'll come up short. Palace away, Man United away for captain Marvel. Not good enough.

So why does the manager pick them? Why did he make McGinn captain?

Being dropped doesn't surprise me but being dropped for Konsa who was shitter than him last season does. Maybe it was just a balance thing as both Mings and Carlos both play as LCB but it should have been Chambers over Konsa.

Willie Miller played 65 and only scored once, but he was a better player.

I think if Gerrard were to fail here then this will be the number 1 reason most people look back on.

Gerrard will not play Mings in the next game, his ego will get in the way of good sense.
