Maguire has become a joke.

I don’t really care too much about our players not getting picked but picking Maguire is risible.

Southgate is a prick. Talks about picking players on form - then picks Maguire. Fuck off Gareth.

Nobody is really surprised though are they? Maguire got picked after being arrested in Greece, and went straight back into the team when he was fit at Euro 2020.

Him Pickford and Kane are the undroppables, probably Rice now too.

Mings has been playing well of late too. Maguire hasn't been playing or playing well for quite a long time.

I'm quite pleased that Tyrone gets to take the summer off and completely refresh his bones.  He's been ok this season, the odd rick here or there but I hope with better quality around him, he will be amazing next season.  Agree with others, Southgate is an arse.

After a few hours of reflection, I’d like to thank Southgate for dropping Mings (despite the fact that the badge on the club shirt seems to matter a lot to SG). TM will now get a full summer rest and hopefully we’ll have a much needed coherent preseason (particularly compared to last). I’m not sure how many of our other players will be involved in International games, but the more who get a long break the better.

From a Viila perspective Southgate has done us a big favour.
Tyrone gets the break he deserves and time to prepare for a big season ahead with a new centre back partner on the way.
I can't wait for the new season already.

Some of the commentary (mostly from 'fans' of other clubs mostly Chelsea and Arsenal for some reason) on Tyrone and England is nuts. It's like nobody has checked England's defensive record when he plays. Something like 12 clean sheets in 14 matches and the other two were against Denmark and Belgium.

He was also called out on MOTD by the pundit police for his touch leading to Citeh's 3rd goal, they all really highlighted it really giving him stick, you wonder if St. Gareth gets influenced by such things.

I don’t think I’m the only one who is concerned that all the anti Mings feeling from some Villa fans may not always be based on his football ability.
100%, not here but certainly on Twitter / Facebook etc a lot of the anti-Mings stuff is racially motivated, as we were the first game after lockdown he did appear to become a poster boy for taking the knee which bizarrely offended a lot it seemed.  Can’t help but think if there was a white player who came from working a normal job whilst playing non league, through to Premier League and playing for England the narrative would be one of an inspiration for all.

We know he makes mistakes (like pretty much every centre half - McGrath, Laursen included) and the the way he plays in attacking everything that will happen.  If there’s an upgrade available would I take it? Absolutely….do I think he is our weakest centre back….nope!

He is one of a pot of very average English centre backs, no better or no worse than Maguire, Coady, White etc but he certainly is no Captain that needs to be grouped with like of Zat or Titus Bramble back in the day

I agree a lot of it - certainly from other fans - is because he is outspoken on political issues.

Personally I think that is a good thing - particularly enjoyed his take down of Patel.  And it makes me very proud to have him as our captain.
