I’m not convinced he’s as bad as the press he gets. Seems a sad reminder of happier days seeing the thread title so perhaps if that’s how most people feel it should be changed.

He has had some very good games since SG arrived, but he does have a tendency to make glaring errors and lose the plot occasionally.
He was poor in the second half and having watched the Lukaku header again this morning it is inexplicable why he decided not to make an attempt to challenge the player.

The team as a whole was pretty poor the second half.

Mings had a very good first half, continuing a run of good form over the last few months, but then had a shaky 45 minutes against the champions league winners after they brought on one of the best centre forwards in the world.

That sounds about right.

Lukaku might be one of the best forwards in the world, but all he did was jump in the air for a header. It wasn't like he went on an amazing mazy dribble, or used his strength and speed to shove a player aside like he did with Targett later on. He just jumped for a cross, which Mings should have chellenged him for in the air, but didn't.

He did brush Targett away like he was a wee little flee. Targett ain’t no soft touch either.

This did make me chuckle

it seems that some just can not accept he was at fault for the second goal. Really strange.

Or just not focusing on one persons mistake. I thought we was pretty poor as a team in the second half after a promising first half.

This is the Tyrone Mings thread though Ian! Where else would you like a mistake by Tyrone Mings to be discussed?!

Yeah ok! Good point. It’s just sometimes he gets a fair amount of stick and other players threads get no activity, it might get mentioned on the post match.

I still maintain he had a solid first half and his form has helped us become a much better team over the last few weeks. We’re better with him than without him. Other players had made mistakes and wrong decisions in the same match. Also we just didn’t seem to turn out in that second half. Maybe bringing Lukaku on played on our weakness and vulnerability even before he tore a new one in our back four.

The point though is that every mistake by Mings results in a few extra pages on here whereas that doesn't happen with other players. No criticism of Knosa on his thread for giving away the penalty for the 3rd for example (and in general Konsa gets far less posts about mistakes when he makes them). I think people also forget that Mings is a less experienced central defender than Konsa who had a handful of games there before joining us and has been learning on the job.

This isn't saying Mings doesn't make mistakes or that he shouldn't be criticised for them, it's just that there seems to be a spotlight on him that doesn't happen for other players. My favourte being that if he boots the ball long hes accused of 'hoofing' but if he tries to play he's "fucking about at the back", often with the same people (certainly on social media) making whichever fits most closely to his lat game.

He should've jumped against Lukaku instead of trying to ease him off the ball, it was a mistake and he'll know that but it doesn't mean his shit, holding us back or desperate to be replaced for us to improve.

I see you are advocating proportional distribution. Fair enough I will spend next 15 mins praising or disparaging other players.

I think you'd be hard pushed to argue that Mings hasn't made a lot more mistakes than any of the other defenders over the last 2-3 years. Even comparing his mistake to Konsa's is nonsense really if you look at the match. Konsa's was a last gasp attempt after Lukaku had completely got away from Targett. Mings made no attempt at all.

You've missed the point there, I'm not saying the mistakes from this specific match are comparable (although Mings getting more shit in his thread than Cash has on his does back up my point) but rather that every mistake Mings makes gets put under a microscope in a way that I can't think of any other player being treated, certainly not for a long time.

Mings isn't as bad as people say he is, he's probably not as good as he probably thinks he is.

We're a mid-table side - we're good for each other at the moment. When we improve, he will have to - or he will be replaced.
