Well it's Southgates chance to see how it works in a very low risk game.  If he believes Maguire is fit enough and also believes we have more chance of progressing further in the tournament with Maguire playing then it's a sensible move in my opinion.  Maguire is good enough and experienced enough to fit in in a game like this without signifdicant disruption.  Like you I would keep Pickford in Rice in place too as there's not any obviously superior options.

There's also the leadership issue.  Kane is not a vocal leader and England lacked leadership against Scotland.  Mings is a brilliant leader, but his lack of experience at international level makes it difficult for him to take on the role for England.  Maguire has captained England a number of times and as Utd captian he has the gravitas and respect of the other players to be a leader on the pitch.

Maguire has only played 32 games for England, compared to 12 for Mings, so it' not like he's Peter Shilton or something. In addition, Mings has actually played more games in the last two years, with 10 games to Maguire's 6.

I think Mings is better in the air, is quicker, and tackles better than Maguire, plus Tyrone is left footed. Mings does of course, have the odd ricket in him, but in the first two games he's been pretty faultless. Maguire is maybe slightly better at distribution, but not enough to compensate for the other things. Plus, he's a twat with all that stuff in Greece, whereas Mings is an absolute ambassador. And a better player.

Maguire is utter rubbish. The lumbering oaf gets caught on the turn and lunges in far too often. He's not good enough for United, let alone England.

Tyrone needs to stay in the team on the off chance we play Portugal, the world is crying out for him to carry out one his 'accidental shithouse' moves on Ronaldo.

McGuire is certainly not £45m better than Tyrone.

That's why they sold him to Hull.

Is Maguire really better than Mings? Or is that he just plays for Man U?

Maguire, without being Baresi esque, is quite good on the ball. Certainly better than Mings and a bigger threat at set piece time. Mings is obviously the better athlete and playing with Stones, England shouldn't have needed to play two holding midfielders in front of them. If you play Maguire, you will need them.

Mings has done well in the two games.

Maguire being good on the ball is to an extent a disadvantage. One, he thinks and acts like he’s much better than he actually is. Two, he bypasses the midfield. I suppose if you have two holding midfielders then that doesn’t matter too much. If this team, as it should,  has a creative midfield then it’s pointless having a central defender who wants to be the play maker.

I'd play Maguire. He has a better tackle success rate, blocks more shots, makes more interceptions, (almost double) wins more duels, delivers more accurate long balls and has a much better aerial battle win rate than Tyrone, (almost 50 more) but to counteract all of that his discipline is twice as bad. He commits more fouls and picks up twice as many yellow cards.

I prefer riskier football for potentially better rewards, so I'd go with Maguire.

95% of the Buendia thread is people talking about his stats and how he was "one of the best players with x amounts of chances created and this and that" to justify his very average first season in the P.L. Yet the very same people will completely ignore Maquire's stats, call him "shit" and still go with Tyrone just because he's our player, lolz.

This ball he put in for an on the run Grealish around the 35 second mark was pretty tasty.

If you want balance you play Maguire with Mings, versus two right footed, right CB’s who against proper teams will be exposed. None of the CB’s are immune to making mistakes so why potentially increase that by removing the one CB who is genuinely left sided? But I have no doubt Southgate will go with Stones and Maguire and while we might get away with it vs the Czech’s we will get properly mullered against a top side.

Steve Bruce was a much better player. Amazing he never played for England when shite like Wes Brown and Phil Jones have loads of caps.

Very, very unfortunate to get left out.

He won’t drop slabhead now unless he has an absolute howler.
