I look back to the Brook dismissal and I do wonder if he needs to be dropped for a game or two. Sounds mad, as he’s at the top of the Test rankings and actually did alright in the first innings - but that second innings was just so stupid. I just think he needs something to shake him out of this mindset he gets into. It’s good to feel comfortable in your place, it’s not good to have no sense of consequence.

Surely it's difficult to drop him for it when he's been told to play like that by McCullum and Stokes?

In addition to that, yesterday was a circus so hard to judge a player on that, although it isn't the first time with Brook.

Rather like Villa when the current administration (Gerrard) has gone, then let the new (Emery) have time with the players and see where we are. It wasn't that long ago SJM was constantly being questioned.

Are we that shite a test side now that Bethell is our number 3 unchallenged?

No, but if you take a 20 year old kid away from his county and have him largely carrying drinks for 18months you do then need to give him a fair chance once you put him into the team.

That said I do think this series puts a massive question mark over the decision to let him go to the IPL, he'd probably have been better prepared by a couple of months at Warwickshire as he has looked a little undercooked.

For me he gets the series against Pakistan and away at SA and then see how things are looking, especially given there's going to be plenty of disruption elsewhere.

But have they been told to play like that.

I think it’s not quite that simple - and if you see stokes face he clearly wasn’t impressed

I don’t really see the question mark on Bethell. He made a ropey judgement yesterday, but he’d played well this game. He’s not one I’m worried about at all.

Brook worries me far more, because for all his obvious talent he repeatedly makes poor decisions. You obviously don’t write him off and he’s still got a very good record, but it’s like someone needs to shake some sense into him.

The run out sums it all up. A totally unserious team who just don't care.

McCullum and Key should be gone before the end of the day

Yeah. Ultimately Key has overseen the Bazball era and so needs to go.

Brook has all the talent in the world, but unfortunately the cricketing intelligence of a door frame. With the current coaching set up, that's not a great combination.

It seems inevitable that Brook will be the next test captain, there really is no other candidate. He should stand down as white ball captain though, his workload will be relentless otherwise.

Aye.  Needs better guidance from above whilst still relatively young.

The decisions he's made in the last three series at key points have been utterly gormless.

Getting twatted by a team that have just lost 2-0 to Ireland is going to be fun.
