Stokes gone.

His batting is totally gone unfortunately. He is no longer a good enough player to bat as high as number 7

Archer battled well there and got a brute of a delivery from Smith.

Really ropey day for England. They are clinging on, and need to do something pretty remarkable with the ball tomorrow,

Stokes retires from international cricket. That’s huge news and a huge gap to fill.

Wow! Unbelievable moment, with that wicket!

What a cricketer, he’s been responsible for some of my favourite sporting moments of the last 15 years.

I can’t say that I’m particularly surprised by his retirement, after everything he’s been through over the last few months I reckon he’s just had enough.

The lack of suitable alternatives is a major concern, I imagine Harry Brook will step up as it’s come too early for Jacob Bethell. If Brook gets the job I hope he does well but he doesn’t strike me as someone who will lead by example and inspire others.

For all his obvious flaws, I like Stokes.  His century at Headingley is one of the most spectacularly brilliant moments in the whole history of Test cricket.  Ultimately, the relentless nature of international cricket and the pressures of captaincy have taken their toll.

Been a great, typical of him to take a wicket immediately after statement released

Will be massively missed as he has been everytime he was injured / banned because he is the go to player to change anything when nothing is happening.  Absolutely his batting has waned a little but hopefully one last knock in him.

Hope he enjoys a couple of years playing the cricket he wants to play be it for Durham or on the franchise circuit.

Hopefully Key & McCullum are copy cats and go too.

Once this test and series is lost then Key and McCullums positions are completely untenable. It would be staggering arrogance from the ECB for either of them to remain
