He’ll probably be playing where ever he is now. He’s crossed through that threshold. He’ll start every game he’s around for England and that semi-final against India in India will propel his prominence in IPL.

I think his centuries across the formats have shown, he’s probably the exception of what you’d normally expect in terms of “learning the game”. He can do it all already.

We are unlikely to see him in a Bears shirt anytime soon which is unfortunate but that’s central contracts for you.

Hopefully he will go on to break the Bears/England/Edgbaston hoodoo.

All over already. Thanks for fuck all, New Zealand. Let South Africa win the semi if you aren't even going to try.

Not just in hindsight, but honestly thought their best chance would have been to bat first and try and put some pressure on India.  As it is, chasing a massive score in those kind of conditions was always going to be very difficult.

Of course it is, but I find it frustrating that his recall is the biggest story, for me Emilio Gay is the most exciting addition to this squad, averaging 92, which is exceptional anyway, but also looking like a proper test match opener, capable of both the blood and thunder stuff we see now but also able to dig in and see off the new ball. I know he's been batting at 3 but for me he looks perfect to replace Crawley and give us some more solidity up there, with Bethell hopefully settling in at 3 as well we suddenly look a lot more stable at the top, which should help Root, Brook, Smith and Stokes play like a proper middle-order rather than 1 or 2 of them constantly having to bail us out of trouble.

I hope Baker gets some game time, he's started the season well and, for me, he's the one who looks to have something about him that could develop into a top class bowler.

Yes and Emilio Gay is a good choice. He's a bit late to show his credential at 26 but the England openers have been a problem now for almost 20 years. Let's hope he is the answer.

Nice to have test cricket back, unfortunately the weather forecast is not very good in St. John’s Wood so I can’t see many overs being bowed today.

It's the 150th Test match at Lord's, with the likely delays in play, I expect Sky will be looking back at some of England's greatest matches at the home of cricket. Also good luck to Emilio Gay on his debut.
