They’ve embarrassed themselves today.

Today has been a disgracefully bad display. One of the worst I’ve seen. They’re going to have to do something remarkable to correct this slide.

The batting is nothing short of an embarrassment. I have some sympathy for the bowlers, they put in one stellar performance to correct the first innings, but they couldn’t do it twice with no rest.

I’m astonished by how dense that Root, Brook, and Pope were. They’ve put us on course for series failure today through their inability to read the moment.

Fail to prepare. Prepare to fail. Always the same. Embarrassing. Still. At least they all had a nice game of golf on Tuesday.

There will be zero repercussions of even introspect within this England set up though. It wouldn't surprise me to see Stokes and McCullum double down on the batting approach

I still think Australia are vulnerable and if there’s no weather they’ll be results in every test.

But fuck me we’ve got to do better than that. Batting needs a major rethink.

Stokes talking what can only be described as ‘stunned bollocks.’

I don’t mind the batting “approach” as such, it’s the inability to read the moments when you cannot gift wickets. Brook did it in the summer, after putting us in the position to win. Brook, Pope, and Root did it today - sometimes you need to ride it out and not try to keep the hammer down.

In the summer it cost us a series win, and short of something pretty remarkable it’s probably taken us from likely winning the first Test to being on course for a series defeat.

These moments are they big. They’ll also have absolutely killed the bowlers morale now.

We won’t come back from this, once the Aussies get ahead in a home Ashes series they are relentless.

Well yeah, especially against us. We batted for less than 70 overs across two innings in the series opener of the series they’ve been building to for two years - they’ll need to pick themselves up, but right now they should be fully humbled and embarrassed. Then they need to move on and work out how they get runs.

Watched the first two hours and got my head down knowing England had only lost one wicket and were looking comfortable with a growing lead, bloody hell looks like we got out bazballed.

At least I can get a good few hours sleep tonight.

Pitch flattened out today as they said it would. We just desperately needed to bat longer. Heavy roller for the Aussies killed it. Criminal not to bat until end of today.

Ah well looks like Rottnest Island and Fremantle for next couple of days!

In the big series they just keep making the wrong decisions in the crucial moment - Australia on their knees in 2023, Lyon injured, and keep hooking in the air. India at the Oval, game won, loose shot at key moment and the game is lost. Here they had 3 opportunities to spot the danger and again made the same mistake.

Yes I did the same, went to bed at 4.15am when the bookies had us 3/10 at lunch. Woke up at 8.30, turned the radio on and I thought I was hearing things when they said the Aussies were batting and had almost won!!

Shocking from England but that was one of the great Test match innings from the ex Pears man.
