Gonna lose about 5 or 6 overs tonight due to poor over rates. The ground is still bathed in glorious sunshine....

The ICC really need to look at this. Its embarrassing
It was strange that they pulled stumps when they did as 90 overs could have easily been completed. There was Emi Martinez level of shithousery deployed by Gill and Jadeja in the last hour or so. I reckon they ate up at least 3 overs with their various shenanigans. Umpire need to be wiser.

On the brightside, as someone with tickets for days 3 and 4 - looks like there is plenty of cricket still to play!

They aren't allowed to play past 6:30 because of the inane rules.

This is proper turd from Bashir and Tongue (and Stokes for persisting with them in fairness)

Neither are anywhere near international standard

This match is going exactly as expected really.

Kookaburra ball means it's dead from about 25 overs.
Edgbaston is always a batting pitch when it's been dry and sunny.
It can break up a bit on day 4 or 5.

This is why Bumrah didn't play and it's why I'd have tried to get Bethell in as an alternative for some spin. Ideally we could really do with a Livingstone/Mousley who can bowl finger spin, wrist spin and slow/medium pace, just to try to generate something in these moments, rather than getting someone like Brook to throw pies.

Makes it all the more absurd that we chose to bowl

Not really, day 2 and 3 are always the 'worst' at Edgbaston but the first day can offer something. Lets not forget that they could easily have been 20/3 from Woakes opening spell yesterday.

A draw was always the most likely outcome here.

I don't think more than 5 balls have moved off the gun barrel straight. I don't think you can defend the decision because of a couple of close calls that may have changed things slightly.

I would have also taken into account how poor our bowling attack is into the decision

They use Dukes in test matches in England.

Kookaburras are being used for a few games in the County Championship but not test matches.

I dread to think how bad this would be if they were using a kookaburra

The pitch is dead in current climate.  Results emerge from grass for seam and atmosphere for swing as is the norm in an English season. When temp is near 30 degree, dry and no grass left it’s a mat. 5th day it could break up and help spinners alas England do not have a real spinner.

Some innings from Gill this.

It is an excellent innings. He's had a very flat pitch and a very poor bowling attack in his favour but you still have to score them

I, for one, am looking forward to how we manage to get a win out of this. In Bazball we trust.
