I'd rather have a long-term solution in goal than yet another loan signing. If we can get a player who is first choice at a team above Portugal, Spain, Argentina and Germany in the World Rankings why ever would you not want to do that?

All you need is Lovre.

Would have preferred Heaton or any goalkeeper who has experience of playing in the English leagues.

A bit risky to me, still I trust Smith.

Agree and Agree

Yes 101 on this several prem gk who would be decent at this level, already in English football, who have no or few minutes and aperances .
I think these would be lovely and been going to waste.

Heaton
Adrian West ham
Boruc Bournemouth
Mignolet Liverpool
Smithies Cardiff (qpr last season)
Darlow Newcastle
Forrester Southampton
Gomes Watford
Ruddy Wolves

Think we’ve simply decided to not wait on Burnley to make up their minds about TH. last reports suggested they had not decided whether to let him go or not until they see how well Pope has recovered

Rumour is Heaton is going to Leeds as they're short of keepers themselves.

Leeds have some child in goal don't they?

Geographically I guess it is a bit less of an upheaval for him. The other thing is at his age and having had a long time out with serious injury, you don't know if he is the same keeper. To be left out completely by the manager who once had ultimate faith in you behind a former Charlton reserve (I know Pope did well but that is what he is) and a very, very dodgy Hart poses some questions about where Heaton is at in training.

And as for the defence being awful in front of Nyland argument, yes, shocking at times I agree, but I can think of 7-8 goals off the top of my head that a competent keeper doesn't concede this season. He has been woeful most of the time with the odd splutter of a spectacular save.

In Dean Smith we trust seems a good buy to me.

Doesn't look like he would command his area like a morris dancer so a welcome move from me.  Better to secure a perm move than a loan surely.  I do wonder how Brexit will affect work permits etc. in the long run though.

Won't make much difference in his case as Croatians still needed work permits anyway. I would imagine any players already here will be exempt from further restrictions but who knows.

Good to see Deano sign a player for a position that was a definite area to strengthen

Impressive work by all concerned - DoF,  Deano and the Board to get this signing done and dusted before the window opens.

It gives me confidence that:
a) he club has identified suitable reinforcements for the other positions that need strengthening and
b) they'll get the deals done

Another step on the road to becoming a properly organised and run club.
