I’m not sure, you know. He doesn’t seem to be driven by money, and I think he enjoys his role at the club and how he is challenged and developed.

I’m not saying he couldn’t be tempted, but I credit him enough to believe it wouldn’t be about money.

John McGinn earnt his medal the hard way. Jack got his the easy way.

Most likely at the end of their careers Jack will have more medals and money, SJM will have more love and respect and not just from the fans of his clubs.

SJM strikes me as someone where his way and legacy will mean more to him than having Jack's would.

Not that I want to make this about him, but seeing as you mentioned Jack, it was sad in a way that as SJM was out earning his way to that medal and a win for the side he now captains, Jack Grealish was out at a strip club getting wankered. He sent the most pathetic of notes from what I saw to congratulate his “boyhood club” on our win. On a night when so many ex and current Villa were just loving every second of it.

I dont think it really matters what Grealish was doing or what he said. It's irrelevant really.

A few years ago, during a tough spell, I saw McGinn having a few pints in The Windsor in town. That's how bad his form was and he was in and out of the team at the time. How times have changed.

Even during his hardest times, he was loyal to Villa’s most legendary hooligan pub.

The FA Cup is behind the big two but we need to get our trophy count up.

Don't care what honour it is we can overtake Chelsea very quickly and get back into the top 4.

I agree with the breakdown above. Europa League is huge despite so many trying to downplay it now that we won it.

Fucking right. If Europa is so small time, does that mean that the EPL and CL are now the only things worth winning? So much jealousy from fans of other clubs that are not Gooners or 115ers.
I had to laugh at a Geordie who claimed this morning that the League Cup (max 7 matches) was harder to win than The Europa (max 15 matches, with Thursday followed by Sunday PL games).
It'll be interesting to see how piss easy it is for the English teams next season.

He can take pride in being an integral part of our transformation from Championship to this. His mate sat in a stupid armchair in a Man City kit, played a few matches and was a small cog in the soulless, cheating team he went to. There is more integrity in how he won this trophy than anything Jack did.

Grealish wasn't integral to bringing the club from midtable of the championship to midtable of the PL?

Yes he was and then he fucked off to be a small part in a ruthless, cheating machine and play a bit part in anything he ever won a medal for when he could have been loyal to his club. I was making the point that there is more integrity, commitment and passion in the single medal McGinn has than all the medals Grealish won before he was spat out with the same disloyalty he showed to us.

I agree with all of that, and I also worship at the altar of SJM. But if Man City held him in enough esteem to offer 100 million, and all that entails, he wouldn’t be turning them down for the distant hope of a medal one day at Villa.
There is pragmatism and all that, but what is the point in a comment like that, now. 8 years at the club, championship days, scored in the play off final, broke his ankle in the first year back, came back, helped us stay up. Skipper, seems like a fooking great person, honest, genuine, skillful, tenacious, the first skipper in 30 years to lift a trophy for us, first in 44 years a European trophy. The hypotheticals can stay where they belong, he’s a fooking villa legend and that is that tbh.

I didn't know that, it helps explain why Prince William became a Villa fan.

I honestly don't give a fuck about the FA Cup. I don't care about the old boys who have seen everything else bar that. Give me the league, give me the Champions League.
It's been far too long since the won the greatest competition in football. It's deeply ingrained in our history, so for me ( yeah im an older boy) I'd take it over both the Title & Champions league . Imagine losing the CHAMPIONS league to a 6th place Bournemouth

FA Cup over the title seems mad to me.

He sits alongside the greatest of all Villa players in the last 55 years for me and is next to McGrath at the head of the table.

That's just for what he does on the pitch. Then add in the fact that he's probably the most likeable player/person in the modern game.
