SJM doesn't kneel before anyone!

He's a legend of this club, it's past, present, future - we love McGinn...

And now, truly, up there with any player in our entire history.  An absolute legend.

Courtesy of Gregor Robertson in The Times today…..

“But it was McGinn, signed for less than £3million in 2018 by Steve Bruce — bargain of the decade? — who scored what turned out to be the winning goal against Derby County in the 2019 Championship play-off final at Wembley. It was McGinn who scored Villa’s first goal upon their Premier League return.

It was McGinn who scored the goal that rocked Paris Saint-Germain on their heels in last season’s pulsating Champions League quarter-final. It was McGinn who scored Villa’s first winning goal of this season against Bologna, ending a six-game winless start in September, when the notion of lifting this trophy felt so remote as to be laughable.

It was McGinn who scored the goals against Nottingham Forest that sent Villa Park into raptures a fortnight
ago, and put beyond doubt the club’s place in their first European final for 44 years. And it was McGinn whose strike against Liverpool on Friday quashed any lingering fears about Villa taking their place in next season’s Champions League — a goal that brought his season’s tally into double figures for the first time in his career, at its highest peak, aged 31, meeting a challenge set by the uber-demanding Emery”

He can take pride in being an integral part of our transformation from Championship to this. His mate sat in a stupid armchair in a Man City kit, played a few matches and was a small cog in the soulless, cheating team he went to. There is more integrity in how he won this trophy than anything Jack did.

Indeed. It worked out well for us in the end. McGinn is now an all-time Villa great, whereas Jack was our best player for 2-3 years. Helped us get promoted and kept us up. SJM and Ty did that a whole lot more.

Love reports of Roy Keane taking down the other Sky pundits.
“ John Mcginn just doesn’t play football, he suffocates opposition midfields, what he’s done this season isn’t a hot streak-it’s a tactical masterclass in leadership, desire and pure quality, if he wore a different shirt, you all be calling him world class.
We sit here talking about flashes of brilliance from £100 million players and yet we ignore the guy who just dragged a club from the championship to continental silverware.
The most unappreciated midfielder in modern British football”

Fantastic praise, and he's right.
