With the other cups I’ve seen us win, who tye captain was didn’t really matter to me. But with McGinn, I’ve never wanted to see someone lift a trophy for us more. It really will be emotional if it happens.

This team is full of players who keep getting written off and keep proving everyone wrong. At various points and by various people (including me), terminal doubts have been cast on Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Pau, Digne, Onana, Rogers, Buendia, Watkins - and McGinn. But it's like he's leading the whole squad in pushing beyond what (some) people think they're capable of, going from level to level. McGinn is a Champions League level player without any doubt, and a top-tier captain.

And that goal was kind of hilarious, just waiting so calmly then boofing it into the top corner with no backlift. Amazing stuff.

Fuck I hope he gets his hands on a pot for us.

If he continues in this vein of form Magrath will have to step aside.

I hope he has a "McGrath" match in the US World Cup where it is just a masterclass from him talked about for many a year.

Every couple of months I watch that Italy match the whole way through

An unbelievable exhibition of how to defend against the world’s best

The work he did last summer with that woman in the US was not only a brilliant example to set as captain and a mark of his attitude, it appears to have paid off in spades as he's an absolute monster now, his energy and strength just overwhelms teams and gives him the time and room to display his full range of skills.

Last night he battered Kerkov with his arse for 70 minutes. Then he brought out the Maradona shit. Once in a lifetime footballer.

There's more to being a legend than just being really good at kicking a football.

It's about character, and McGinn has the very best kind.

Balls of steel, the heart of a lion. The greatest arse in football, with magic in his left foot.

It’s an unstoppable combination.

Be easy to make a statue of him too, just get a big lump of clay and punch it a few times. Job done.

He is brilliant but not quite That Good.

However he would be in my lifetime's all time Villa team now ahead of Bremner.

Superb strike for the 4th last night, but then that's what £2.75m buys you these days.
