There's probably a fair argument that he's the best Scot to have ever played in the premier league at this point

The term "legend" is thrown around far too easily these days but SJM is pretty much there. Win on the 20th and he will be there as a no doubter.

He scores some absolutely belters of goals, but those two this evening are his trademark goals

I love how he just opens his body and strokes the ball into the net. No real pace, but perfectly placed

The first one was just beautiful, lovely curl on it. Technically he's a very sharp footballer. Set the tone right from the off with a cracking freekick into the box. Bullied Williams, Anderson, McAtee and anyone remotely in his way. His greatest day in a Villa shirt.

I would just love to see this man lift a major trophy for Villa.

Reckon on achievements, Andy Robertson probably tops him.

Obviously he's more important to us than Robertson was for Liverpool. But you're right, it's a fair argument.

He was the only competition I could think of for it.

Fletcher at ManU - hugely underrated IMO.

I would have said Dalglish. but he missed the Premier League by a couple of seasons.

I don’t care about the best Scot to play in the Premier League, he’s probably the best Scot to play for the Villa and there’s some stiff competition from Cropley, Evans, McNaught and Bremner. Lift the trophy in a couple of weeks and his Villa legend status is confirmed, a Holte End deity.

Thanks Steve. Your managerial reign with us was mostly forgettable but you signed one of the best midfielders in our history for next to nothing.
