I absolutely fucking love the man. Probably my favourite ever footballer. I’m 45 and love him more than the heroes I had when I was 10.

Bordering on legendary status.

From Championship to Europa winning captain will cement it and would be some story to tell.

Yeah, he's my favourite Villa player of the last 40 years for sure. Just everything about him. He plays with passion and intensity and no little skill and so often drives us forward.

The fact that he's stayed with us says that he cares about the club.

Added to this he comes across as a really good guy.

There aren't many out there like SJM.

I think he's already a club legend. This season has cemented that, arguably his best ever but yes lifting the eiropa league trophy would be the cherry on top.

I want him to captain us to win the Champions League and then for the club to commission a massive statue of his arse outside the ground.

I like your thinking.

He is indeed.

On a number of occasions since we qualified for the Conference League 3 years ago, I’ve thought that he would soon be superseded in our first XI, and that a squad role beckoned. But he continues to show his worth.

What an inspirational player.

There was a period in Gerrard’s time in charge I thought he was gone. The relationship him and Unai have developed is something else

Ironically it was Stevie Twat who forced this creation of John McGinn, Captain of Aston Villa. The way it was done however couldn’t have been any worse. After the whole “look me in the eye” bollocks as he stripped Mings of the captaincy, you could see SJM at the start quite uncomfortable with the new responsibility because of how it came about. But after Gerrard was whacked at Fulham, Unai came in and kept still him in the role. And since, he’s just embraced and grown from it. He’s gone from chubby SJM where prior to Unai, it appeared his career was drifting to being one of the most fit and the most engaged player we have at the club. Engaged that he almost touches everything as Captain. His influence is so tangible but it’s the other things he does that makes him what he is. He’s a great ambassador for the club and unequivocally the true leader of Aston Villa.

Gerrard was a revolutionary, let's just accept it.
