Yeah, I think sometimes people underestimate the incredible fitness levels it takes just to maintain tactical discipline in modern football.

Yes, tactical discipline was all important v Brentford late on or two down v Palace.

The problem is we seem to get worse when we take SJM off.

Definitely, v PSG for example was outrageous by Emery. McGinn was like peak Roy Keane that night. It's obvious Emery/coaching staff have concerns about his stamina. But metrics don't tell the full story, his presence alone in midfield isn't easily replaced. Taking him off v Brentford and we ended up with Bogarde in midfield trying to chase an equaliser! That's just braindead.

If he hadn't, and McGinn started leaving holes in the midfield, he'd have been criticised for not taking him off, as is the way of these things.

'Braindead', fucking hell man [redacted mean remark]

I love the man, but what is he going to do in the remaining twenty minutes that he hasn't done in the previous seventy?

It's a long season, he's going to be playing a lot of games and not just for us. Subbing him now and again makes perfect sense.

Leave him on and we might find out! Same question was put to Ollie Watkins last season and he felt he scores a lot of goals late on.

Don't get me wrong if any player is playing poorly or whatever replace them. But taking off McGinn against camped in defences and replacing with likes of Bogarde is pointless.

The technical staff also have to consider the 'wonderbra' that the players wear apparently.   I recall SJM saying recently that 'he's getting close to the line' and that's why he was brought off.  Not sure what it means but I am guessing it is not just about tactics as I agree that Bogarde on for SJM doesn't make a great deal of sense.

I think we're seeing the same thing from different angles, taking McGinn off isn't necessarily the problem. But whereas before we'd replace him with Bailey Diaby Ramsey Asensio etc. we haven't had that calibre of player on the bench in the first few games.

That was in the dark ages, before we signed Lindelöf.

Isn't Wonderbra a Tenpole Tudor song?

Yes, science is what dictates. “He looked perfectly fine to me” doesn’t cut it anymore. If the numbers are not what they should be then off they come. It should be for the betterment of the team and the players themselves.

As an aside, watching the videos of what the players have to go through these days prior to signing, I wonder how much it differs from the old days when they had medicals.
