Main memory of Tommy Johnson is him beng sick on the pitch, before a game.

I thought McGinn played excellently for the Scots last night; he's still a wonderful player to have in any team.

And Andy Townsend rubbing it into the grass with his foot.

So you remember that more than his goals, assists and silly smiley goal celebrations? Grow-up, will ya?

Johnson said on a Villa podcast a few years ago, that he regularly threw up at half time in games before joining Villa. Anyway, I loved his infectious enthusiasm.

Need Emery to stop taking him off! All drive disappeared from our midfield last two games after he got hooked.

Maybe it's fitness concerns. He blows out of his arse after 66 minutes just like Petrov did.

I think it’s pre planned and it’s about managing his workload to ensure his availability over the whole season

There's no point in keeping him on the pitch if he's running out of steam. It'll be planned by all the fitness teams and physios. They'll know exactly what his limit and his capacity is, and when he reaches it, they'll take him off the pitchIf he stayed on and was out of steam and out of energy, that's when he's more susceptible to getting booked or sent off, or getting injured, and that's something we absolutely don't want.

Yeah, I think sometimes people underestimate the incredible fitness levels it takes just to maintain tactical discipline in modern football.

Super Tommy Johnson! He was ace.

He certainly was. He's having tough times at the moment as he's one of the players who used Kingsbridge Investments. Not sure whether it's been posted elsewhere but this documentary on iplayer is worth watching:
