Hamstring? Looked like something was bothering him in the warmup.

Bollocks. Hamstring gone. Done for a few weeks. So sad for him now he’ll miss the massive game vs Bayern.

Love SJM but he's one player we can cope without for a few weeks. Let him heal and rest, and aim to have him back fit after the next int'l break.

That's really sad, gutted for him. He's been part of our revival from the beginning.

He hasn't been right this season, so hopefully a short rest will do him good.

To be fair to him he has been playing in a position that does not suit him at all but hopefully the rest will do him good and he will come back fully fit and refreshed.

TBH he has been playing on the wing with a defender behind him for most of it. I agree though that if we now have Bailey back we might not miss him, especially with Onana, Barkley and Tielemans playing so well in the centre.

That's a shame for him, but he does need a rest. I think that need has been showing itself for a few months now, for both Villa and just as much Scotland. May sound selfish, but this injury would have been better coming just before the last international break.

I'd imagine Celtic is the big one for him.

Say it quietly, but he isn’t one of our best four midfielders anymore.

Bit of revisionism here for me. Heart and soul of the team and will be missed.

He's a great player for us. But I agree, his loss now is nothing like as bad as it would have been two years ago.

Where's the revisionism? He's still a very good player, but there comes a time when a team strengthens every year that eventually all players get overtaken. He's not as good a central midfielder as Tielemans or Onana, so with everybody fit, his position is on the right of midfield. But that also happens to be Bailey's position, who you'd want playing there against 90% of teams in the Premier League. So, still an important player, but not currently one of the best 4 in the midfield.
