I thought it was a yellow card, myself. It was reckless, and a clear foul, but giving a red card for that was poor by the referee.

No it wasn't. An argument could plausibly be made that it was a yellow. The fact that it was a red was still completely fine though.

At first thought it was a yellow but thats a red. No attempt to get the ball whatsoever. Pathetic and ridiculous by mcginn. He should receive a fine from the club for that in my opinion. Its cost us today and probably will in next 3. Cheers John. As captain should be setting a example not to lose your head like that.

He will get a fine for that, assuming it's not overturned. I think the poor defending cost us more.

He was the one trying to get the team going, he had the drive and determination. But that was stupid and pointless, especially in front of the benches.

That's his first red for us in 205 games. That surprised me I have to say.

It was rash but he’s competitive and it’s surprising he hasn’t seen red with us before. He owes me nothing, he’s been fantastic for us.

If the ref had given him a yellow I don’t think VAR would have upgraded it to a red.

It wasn’t high but it was probably interpreted as over aggressive. Many players get away with fouls when they clearly don’t go for the ball. If he’d have done it on the Witton lane side of the pitch, he may well have got away with a yellow.

Half a minute before the foul he'd fought like mad to win the ball over in the corner, and get a cross in to the near post which was met with a kind of half hearted flick at the ball by one of our players (can't remember who) that came to nothing.  This seemed all too much for McGinn, who immediately charged away and went and did what he did.  As McGinn was leaving the field, the cameras panned onto Konsa, who was close to McGinn, looking straight at him, and pointing to his (Konsa's) head. It was hard to tell whether Konsa was offering empathy or not.

Nah that's not a red for me. Soft game these days.

Can't complain for me.  He can flog himself on Thursday in beating Ajax with 3 games of rest looming.

And that says a lot. He’s seen some shit since joining us. So for that to be a snapping point shows how angry he’d become at himself and the team. He’s built this game up in the media too as really important. He lost his head because he gave a fuck. Just that it came across in a way that didn’t ultimately help us today or for a few games to come.

It was stupid but I cut him some slack because it's his physicality and attitude that often wakes-up our slow, passive playing.

Just before the sending-off he was winning free-kicks and taking them quickly to get us in behind their defence.

Just before the red he also got down the byline and hit a decent cross. Think he was annoyed Zaniolo and others were just standing waiting for the ball rather than one making a near post run (I mention Zaniolo as he was the nearest to McGinn and the goal).

He was our best player today. If he just trips Udogie it's just a yellow. The issue was the ridiculous force he went in with. Surprised a few are still saying it's a yellow as that's exactly the type of foul that needs to be taken out of football.

Believe it or not but other teams do get players sent off for those challenges so it's not some sort of conspiracy.

Is that McGinn's first ever red for us? He gets booked plenty but always tends to manage himself o.k when on a yellow so he'll have to learn from this and make sure he dosen't do anything like that in games in May as that will really cost us.
