My old mantra of “When McGinn plays well , Villa play well” didn’t stand up to scrutiny today. The former was excellent, the latter not so. Still I’d take it all day long.

I asked chatGPT to write me a poem about McGinn

In the heart of the pitch, where dreams begin,
John McGinn, a maestro, a football kin.
With skillful strides and vision keen,
He dances on the grass, a midfield scene.

Through the tackles and crowded space,
McGinn weaves with both power and grace.
A player of passion, relentless might,
In every match, he’s a glorious sight.

From Villa Park’s roar to Hampden’s call,
His dedication stands tall.
A warrior in claret and blue,
John McGinn, the pitch’s truest hue.

Goals celebrated, victories sung,
His legacy, forever young.
In the beautiful game, a shining star,
John McGinn, both near and far.

Describing him as the pitches truest hue is a bit odd but otherwise not bad!

He was insanely good today. I think he took out 3 players when he put through Bailey for our third goal. Outstanding footballer.

And it is worth noting he has been with us on the journey from the championship to here - on his way to legend status for me. Let's hope he lifts some silverware with us to cement his position.

How amazing would that be.  The sort of bloke you’d want your daughter to marry.

Absolutely this.

To think just over a year ago when he was miles off the pace it was hard due to his popularity and reasons as written above to see fans (myself included) writing him off and thinking we need an upgrade. How wrong we were.

He’s incredible good and such a vital cog in that midfield. Him and Doug are fantastic, what a midfield we have now.

I can't remember which game it was, but he got booed to the rafters when he came off in one game. That whole period seems a long time ago now.

Just over a year ago I suspect. If at Villa Park, I suspect Chelsea match.

Absolutely outstanding today. Inspirational.

He really has taken to his position as captain too. He leads by example.

Biggest compliment I can give him is today he reminded me of prime Gerrard (player not clown of coach)….he grabbed the game by the balls, ran that game, won every ball he wanted, managed the referee too
