Our Captain:

"When teams come and sit deep, defend with five and six, that's where we need to improve.
We need to be more patient, make more runs. It's something we're aware of and we're working hard on but like the manager says all the time we are progressing as a team, we're getting there.

We're not quite there yet [Champions League qualification] but we're giving ourselves a chance to be right in the mix for some special things."

"It's up to us players. You either get on board with it, get on the train and improve to a level where he [Emery] wants to get to, otherwise you'll be shifted out and we've seen that already. Hopefully I can keep improving and keep being part of that group."

Probably no coincidence that he says before a run of fixtures where teams are likely to play a low block against us.

Ings? Coutinho? I would be surprised if he was talking about the kids that were let go as with the buybacks, it just seemed to be a FFP issue.

Ings, certainly. Coutinho was more of a fitness issue I'd argue, as he certainly had the ability.

I don't think McGinn's been as good as he was at the back end of last season, and he needs to get back to those levels.

Hasn't been playing in his best position for most of it. Brilliant against Brighton but shifted again for Wolves. Get Ramsey back fit and McGinn will thrive.

He isn't going to be fit for several weeks again though.

The problem with a player like McGinn is he’s such a good lad and professional it doesn’t matter who’s in charge he’s trusted to fill gaps in the team, however ultimately it means we do not see the best of him as often as we should do.

Smith the gaffer interviewing with McGinn is just great too. Seeing Deano there and beaming with McGinn feel so proud of it all.
Brilliant.

This season at the moment McGinn is the chief creative source in the midfield who makes the passes into the penalty area. Part of his role is to feed the ball into players who are making moves into the area. I think he's ok at this but he could be better with his weight of passing. And he's being part deployed as a creative source in matches.

Upon observations McGinn and Douglas Luiz seem to share responsibility on through balls(and to a lesser extent Kamara) but its Tielemans (and Buendia ) who are the someones who can help add that creativity and unlock defences
Tielemans has ability and vision to play passes into the penalty area and balls through to players at a better standard than McGinn but doesn't offer the same dynamics as our Captain.
