I thought first ha;f he was b=very good.
I agree with this... if it means what I think it does. He was decent up until the slip to put Bowrn through.
It wasn’t a slip from where I saw it. It was a complete mistake. He had a simple nod back to a Villa man but elected to get the ball down and turned into trouble leaving us exposed to that counter.

Has McGinn done a post match interview yet? I don’t recall one. I don’t even know if he wants to be captain. It certainly hasn’t elevated his game.

Don't remember seeing one. Konsa has stepped up a couple of times though.

I thought he was ok in the first half but soon tired in the second.

John McGinn defends Steven Gerrard after Aston Villa lose to Arsenal.

McGinn the Captain has spoken

"We were standoffish in the first half. Douglas scored a great goal and we were right back in it and then we make the same mistakes over and over again and we were punished.
It is about us as players taking responsibility and being more streetwise. We need to start getting results and we are all aware of it.

It would be a bigger problem if the effort wasn’t there. But we seem to be weak when we score a goal. It is something we need to improve if we are to take the club where we want to.
If you don’t perform you get criticism and you can either go into your shell and worry or you can puff your chest out and try to do something about it. It is not going to turn overnight.
It has nothing to do with the manager. Players are put out to do jobs and if we don’t perform those jobs it is our responsibility. Arsenal were in a similar position last season and stuck with it and got it right"

We were so much quicker once McGinn went off. The attacking play was more fluid and less predictable.

Hopefully the penny is starting to drop with Gerrard that McGinn isn't good enough to start. The midfield three looked much better when it was Ramsey, Luiz and Kamara. I'd start with that next week.

I agree, but would replace him with Dendonker to give us the extra beef.  Free the others up to get forward and still give us the defensive cover.

Couple of weeks out of the firing line might do him good.

ATM, absolutely!
For whatever reason, he's not playing like SJM.
For me he's gone from being the fulcrum of our play to being a bit of a liability!
Had Dendoncker been fit today, who would have dropped out?
SJM is the obvious choice!
