In relation to Mings,  he wasn’t shit at all. However, I reckon we’d accept a decent offer and wonder if this is a come and get him ploy. I’m not sure of this decision to be honest. McGinn gives the ball away too much and needs a big season.

I can see the logic here.

McGinn is a well-liked and established member of the squad. I don't think that him being captain makes him undroppable, but it does suggest that he is going to be in the team to start the season. As a team, we looked at our best last season when we were pressing high up the pitch - for that you need tenacity and energy which McGinn has in abundance. He hasn't been good enough in possession recently, but I think he has been playing too deep - we need him to be making runs in the opposition half - getting in behind the opposition. Not receiving it on the halfway line with 10 players between him and the goal. We forget that in our first season up, McGinn was our most prominent goal threat before he got injured (which is when our form really nose-dived). He was at his best popping up in the box - that's what we need to get him doing again.

His energy and willingness to run should complement the subtlety of Buendia and Coutinho. He should be running to create space and options for them, and to support whoever is playing upfront. I would imagine that is the thinking behind his inclusion in the team.

Kamara will barely cross the halfway line. He'll sit in and spray the ball about, leaving the rest of the midfield to buzz around - finding space and forcing the opposition onto the back foot. That's what McGinn's job will be, which is slightly different to what he had to do last season - often finding himself covering for the full backs which was a ludicrous tactic.

As for Tyrone, I can see the sense there too. I think he always tried to do too much - taking more responsibility than he should have. Hopefully this will ease the burden on him and he can focus on just doing what needs to be done. He seems to have taken it very well, which is no less than I would expect from him. Captain or not, he's a credit to the club.

I do think Mings has been shit on to be honest, but I guess we will have to wait and see how McGinn takes to the role.

He will spend as much time on the bench as off it this season, as Chambers is a better player.

I also think he is a bit too divisive to be captain. Whilst many may appreciate his anti-tory rants, half the country and a large part of our fanbase don't. I think you need someone 1. mostly starting games. 2. Leader on the pitch. 3. Not controversial. Keep the headlines for the football skills.

Last good captain we had was probably Petrov. Not convinced McGinn should be a certain starter, but am hoping he is better with a more solid set of players behind him this season.

I agree that Mings needs to concentrate on and thereby improve his own game, but then I think that about McGinn as well to be honest.

If he was upsetting the Tories it would be an argument for keeping him as captain. However, I don’t believe it’s an issue at all.

Everyone will have a viewpoint.  I just think it could be McGinn who may struggle to cement a place in the starting 11 and he gets booked far too much (okay that's his game I know) and will have time outs .

time for McGinn to step it up - hasn't really kicked on since the Championship. Big season needed. No excuses anymore.

To all those saying that McGinn will now play further up the pitch with the addition on Kamara….this again leaves a massive gap between the defence (and Kamara) and the forwards and all our attacking midfielders……really struggling to see the logic in all of this…

I honestly think Mings will push to leave if he's on bench for early games. I imagine after today's decision he now knows which way the wind is blowing on team selection.

He's still fighting to make world cup squad and won't be doing that stuck on our bench.

Not sure how long is left on his deal but could be a deadline day departure now.

From the few pre-season games that I've seen, it's almost looked like we've played a 5-5 formation out of possession. Pressing with the front three and two midfielders, and if the opposition beat that, there are five players back to halt the progress while the others get back. I'm not saying that's how I want us to play, but I think McGinn is going to be integral in pressing the opposition further up the pitch next season.

When we have possession, we have three at the back - Kamara and the two CB's. Not seen enough to work out precisely what the plan is, but it involves the full backs bombing on. The others presumably have some instructions as well, but I'll be damned if I can work out what they are...

Eloquent intelligent black man, speaks out against racism and at times this ultra right wing Tory party, and this is ‘divisive’. If Mings offends some people I’m glad, the worlds a better place for his sort of divisiveness.
Tye captaincy i would guess is based on a number of factors and i would hope this is not one of them.

Class from Mings. I hope he stays and fights for his place, that's what we need.

Kamara-Luiz-McGinn seems logical in theory.

However how on earth are we going to keep all the final third players happy as we're overloaded in those areas now. Just playing a few of them in league cup v likes of Barrow isn't going to be enough.

Ramsey should also be starting over McGinn anyway as he's younger, bigger goal threat, links up much better with Coutinho and well is just better than SJM these days.
