Would be worth giving him a go where Barkley was earlier in the season.

On the bench at Chelsea?

One of his biggest? Makes it sound likes he's an error-strewn type?

Fair point. His main, if not only weakness.

I guess Smith could argue that he does not have any one else to play in a defensive midfield role.
I think it is the most pressing need recruitment wise.

Nakamba deserves a run in a DCM position.  We have ten games left and a rare opportunity to experiment.

I think that this might be our best team at present:

              Martinez

 Cash-Konsa-Mings-Targett

           Luiz-Nakamba

     Traore-McGinn-Grealish

                  Watkins

It's a shame that Barkley has turned into such a waste of space, because him at his best alongside Grealish and McGinn would be exciting to watch.

I'd probably go for Trezeguet rather than Traore. Not just for his work off the ball, he'd probably be a bit less more unmarked in the box with Jack in the side.

A variation might be this:

              Martinez

 Cash-Konsa-Mings-Targett

           Luiz-Nakamba

     Sanson-McGinn-Grealish

                  Watkins

Save Traore to come in as an impact sub.

We have Nakamba, Luiz, Ramsey and Sanson.
Only Nakamba looks a natural in that position but has other limitations.
I don’t think any of them can do the job Hojbjerg does for example.

Think I would prefer:

              Martinez

 Cash-Konsa-Mings-Targett

           Luiz-Nakamba

             Ramsey

          McGinn-Grealish

             Watkins

The full backs giving us the width, Ramsey to give midfield cover, with McGinn and Grealish to support Watkins
