Needs to be a lot braver. That might come with experience but not a game that filled me with confidence. Penalty save apart, that was very ordinary. Kicking not great either.

Thought he was terrible last night. Haven't seen enough of Orjan Nyland to make a proper judgement yet, but god help us if we're relying on this guy at any point during the season. Should've kept Steer.

Bruce was far too hasty by letting Steer go on loan; neither of the two new keepers had played a single game. Steer was very good at Hull - the TV pundits praised his performance.

I'm baffled by the decision, Steer is 25 now, when we signed him he was tipped for great things. He looked more than capable against Hull and has a fair amount of Championship experience. Instead they sign this guy who looks like a disaster waiting to happen.

I don’t think we’ve seen anywhere near enough of Nyland or Moreira to make a judgement yet.

That’s true, but his punching wasn’t very good and put himself under pressure. Sam was similar when he first came, punched everything

Can anyone think of any reason why we loaned this guy anyway seeing as we already had a capable understudy and needed a solid number one?

Yep and I think it’s something that can be worked on. In Spain/Portugal there’s very much a culture of punching the ball, rather than claiming it. It might just take some time to adjust. Obviously an extreme example, as he’s excellent, but De Gea’s catching and general command of his area was poor when he came to England and now it’s a real attribute of his game.

My guess is that Steer didn't want to be an understudy, he either wanted assurances over playing time or to go on loan.

He's had one game!

I agree, De Gea looked extremely suspect when he first came to this country. Goalkeepers are an odd breed, I used to wonder why they punch rather than catching so much but then when you see the movement of modern balls it's not a surprise.

He didn't concede, didn't make any howlers, he saved a penalty and we won the match.

Put this on the post match thread but probably more relevant here......

The thing with Steer is after the best part of two years out, he needs games.  I don't think any of us would want those games to be as our no. 1 at the moment even though he played well at Hull, so yes we could keep him as back up, but that would be no good to him as he needs games.  So a loan out and a year injury free hopefully, with this guy on loan will give us a year to see if he is going to be truly good enough for us going forward.  Makes sense to me!

Really wish I knew the answer to that one. I know he's only had one game, it's just some of the things he did. Like that half baked chip out he did straight to a Yeovil player, total unforced error could've easily lead to a goal. It's a huge gamble bringing 2 new keepers in at once with no Championship experience.

I seen enough in the first 45 minutes of Moreira to suggest he's barely played in goal before in his life.

I agree, I think Nyland will be ok looking at his previous record.
