I think most on here would be living a comfortably life with no need to work on £10mil (and even less). If I had worked all my life on my current wage I would have only earned a fifth of that amount before tax. Sawaris is worth £7billion, and wants to keep more of it. Obviously it is not all personal wealth but I'm sure personally he is worth a lot more then £10mil.

Another way to look at the mega rich is if only the billionaires they gave ALL their worth away to everyone in the world, everyone would get almost £1500 pounds. That wealth is "owned" by less then 3000 people.

Quite right. Also, who queues at a local office to pay tax?

In the old days i used to have to take tax returns to the actual office - appreciate nowadays it is done on line.

You might want to check to see how Sawiris came by his dough.

It is interesting that every single one of us can choose to pay more tax if we want to

Yet i do not see a queue at the local offices to do so. Its easy to discuss  / slag off someone else with what they do with their money but the vast majority of us would do exactly the same.

If I paid an extra 10% tax, the lifestyle changes I’d have to make would be fairly significant, 10% extra to a billionaire would mean they’d have to change almost nothing.

Sympathy towards millionaires is such a weird thing. I just about get the discussion around not wanting to drive them away (I don’t agree it’s a good enough reason to give them a pass).

Also, you shouldn’t assume everyone else has the same moral standards as you. Just because you’d avoid tax, don’t assume I would.

Also, if old people are going to lose their winter fuel allowance because of "we're all in it together" or whatever shit excuse they come up with, that's pretty jarring when the super rich - many of whom have fortunes built on the infrastructure and society that public investment creates in the first place - get seen as some more deserving case.

I trust the same people are all fine with Amazon killing off small retailers and leaving desolation on our high streets are smilarly down with the "after all, we'd all do the same" thing for them shifting their taxable profits to a letter box in a rented office somewhere in Luxembourg.

How much money is the tipping point before socialist / communists start hating?

£50K your first million?  a couple of million?

I agree with not liking the inherited "old money" lot that we have around the country but to slag off someone who through their own grit and work ethic, ambition or sheer innovative creative inventions have become super rich, is beyond me

Surely they are the inspiration for all of us to rise and make something of ourselves?

I dont look at a bloke in a Ferrari and say "wanker he should not have that" i would rather speak to him and find out how he did it so i could get one as well

Spot on Hookeysmith.

There's a real envious scarcity mindset amongst the bullies of H&V.

The problem here is that there are clearly people who haven't been bullied enough.

The billionaires I know have given away hundreds of millions to charity, the result of which has had a gigantic impact on the most needy people on the planet and continue to do so.

And if they just paid their tax they wouldn't need to.

Edit: how many billionaires do you know?!

We're terrible people, saying nasty things about these poor defenceless billionaires. They'll be crying on their super yachts and private jets if we don't stop it.

I dont look at a bloke in a Ferrari and say "wanker he should not have that" i would rather speak to him and find out how he did it so i could get one as well

And if he told you he did it by pissing all over the lower of society would you do the same? Because I would struggle to point to any millionaire who haven't in some way whether that was to get rid of some workers because they wanted even more profits, deliberately price things to get competitors out of the market, use the cheapest labour with the worst safety, border-line or step across the criminality line and loads of other steps.
