Has anyone asked Royal Mail what they think?

They think they should never have moved from a red telephone box (an iconic design still loved by many) to a more 'modern' utilitarian one that was generic, and quickly became dated.

The gas holders site seems like a decent idea. Loads of space there, and not that densely populated by businesses. I did a screenshot of Google maps, and there seems to be three big warehouse type places next to the actual holders. The squate I've drawn on it is 20 acres, which is bigger than the current site by 3 acres.

If they wanted more than that if they bought the area with the playing field to the right, that extends the footprint considerably. I guess the transport links aren't much better, but you have got Duddeston train station about the same distance away as Aston is now I guess. Overall, it looks slightly less hemmed in than Villa Park is, where I think the main issue is the narrowness of the smaller streets of the main routes. What be the main problems with this as an area?

I park off Chester Street now. Its not too big a walk into town from there, you've just got the main road between you and Aston Uni.

The industrial estate around Electric Avenue was mentioned a bit back.  I could see that being one option, you'd potentially have quite a nice post-gentrification leisure area spanning there - Aston Reservoir - Star City

The field next to it is a school playing field.  Backing on to the playing field just off the main road is an area of old industrial buildings that could make the site a lot bigger if they could be purchased too.  Could probably do something with the University there given it's proximity to it as well.  Above all, it is still in Aston!!

A 30,000 sq ft warehouse & 2 x approx 15,000 sq footers doesn't seem insurmountable.  All modern though, so certainly wouldn't be cheap with ransom value added.

But perhaps not as big a site as I imagined if you want to include the additional uses.

The field with the football pitch looks like it belongs to Nechells Wellbeing Centre, a council owened leisure centre.

If you make a bigger square with the leisure centre pitch and the two or three businesses above it, then that's 34 acres, twice the current Villa Park footprint.

Looking at the gasworks site, transport is the issue. By road, everything would be headed towards the middleway and there's no direct access to Duddeston, which otherwise would be ideal as it's got a derelict platform that could be re-opened and used to whisk 99.876543% of our supporters back to Staffordshire.

1 mile from Snow Hill station

and about the same from Moor St (obviously a bit further to your seat.)

I could have sworn that site was spoken about awhile back and it was already earmarked for development. i wonder what happened.

As for the Hotel Campanile in the bottom left of the picture, I stayed there when it was the H&V (20th?) anniversary at the Bartons. Was walking back after and got picked up by the Old Bill asking what I was doing wandering around there on my own at that time of night. Got a lift back in a transit full of them. Not sure what the Hotel staff and other guests thought of me...

There would be options to open up a walking route towards Duddeston, quite a lot of that is already pretty open. Roads are a bit messier becuase they're already some of th ebusiest roads in and out of the city but I hope that will improve once the roads start to reopen fully around the town hall which is creating a lot of excess traffic everywhere right now.

With how close it is to both Aston and Birmnigham City Unis, as well as being near Curzon Street, I suspect it's an area that will see a lot of development over the next decade. I've been saying for ages that I think it's the best site if we do move so I'd be realy happy with there.
