Not sure what to make of Bruce's Villa at the moment.  Playing gash for 70 minutes and winning 4-2 sounds like the kind of thing sides looking to get promoted need to do, and augurs well for grinding out further wins.  But the fact we were gash for much of the time makes it sound like we rode our luck and the result and scoreline was somewhat flattering.  Which doesn't augur so well unless that kind of luck continues or our form improves.

Im quite enjoying it, that clubs are starting to hate us again, instead of feeling sorry for us.

I still get plenty of the former, wishing us a speedy return, from Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs fans here. They all love a trip to Villa Park

I think it was late 70''s when we beat them in a midweek game in the league cup and they were launching house bricks at us outside the holte pub.

I am really enjoying the fact the we played like Bayern Shambles for much of the game but walked away with a 2-4 away win. It could easily have been them winning by the same margin. So anyway, tough shit Wednesday! UTV!

Most clubs in Yorkshire are shite. It’s a shite county.
I hate to be endorsing regionalism but I have to agree with that. My experience says lovely place populated by horrible people.

I've always thought Yorkies are well balanced folk....

Funnily enough, our XG was the highest in the league over the weekend, at 3.5 goals expected

Not sure id have guessed that from the highlights. Maybe it’s because all of our goals were absolute sitters?

I certainly remember a post-match barrage of bricks down Witton Lane when we played 'em in the late 70's/early 80's. I seem to recall that it was a midweek night match, but my (hazy) memory is of it being a league game after they'd finally got promotion to the 1st Division. Pwoppa nawteee.

We didn't play them in the first division. They were up for a season when we were in division two but we played them twice in the League Cup and twice in FA Cup replays.

All good sides do that - ride their luck, have spells of playing poorly and still get results.

If you set yourself out expecting to play well week in, week out, you'll be disappointed - especially in such a long season.

The one I remember was a league cup night game. A group of Sheffield Wednesday fans were being escorted up Witton Lane and a group of Villa fans ambushed them from the bingo hall just past the Holte End. It was the Villa fans who were guilty of causing the trouble and throwing a barrage of bricks etc. Back then, it was unusual for fans to be escorted directly past the Holte, they would always go round the back way, serpentine Rd etc.

Extended highlights here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4Rt63Xqu06g

I can’t believe how shocking we were defensively, particularly from set pieces and particularly Terry

Seems like we got played off the park in the first half, quality first goal for them.

For their second, did Hourihane leave the post as the corner came in?

He seemed in no mans land as the header went past Johnstone.

Terry is struggling last few weeks, positioning is all over the place.

There was a big old ding dong with Weds in Big Ron’s first season, they got off coaches at the leisure centre, and attacked the Aston Tavern. I always remember a Villa lad with his leg in plaster getting right stuck in.

I thought we started the game quite well but then they came back into it. Their two up front were fuckin giants so it’s no wonder they won so many headers.
