It's still a working class game. When I was a player, I used to get the same bus to games as the fans did every week -and that was only ten years ago.

Admittedly, they might not have been fans of the Sunday league team I played for, just other people going somewhere on the bus.

My Father told me the story of going to the match early one day on the tram and Peter McParland sat next to him - with boots and a sandwich

I once saw Eamonn Deacey get off the bus at Witton island on a matchday. Think it may have been the No 7.

My sister used to work at the sorting office in Newtown and sat in the canteen next to Paul Birch, who became a postman after retiring from football

Buses are for the elite few. I always walk to the ground in me clogs.

Yes - I blame Thatcher.
can't blame one individual for the loss of working class identity at football, the tories played their part people like Tracy crouch. Labour the worst and when the identity was destroyed the most. At least under thatcher we had maggies boot boys and war which was in Great Britains interest.

Blimey.  I originated as working class, and been fortunate to move up to middle class, (certainly in terms of salary), but im struggling to understand any of this last post

What do you class as a middle class salary?

Apparently there are no longer upper, middle and working classes. There are 7 new classes.  Naturally I belong to the 'Elite'.

In the BBC there is one class: Middle. That doesn't include the AI drones in HR though.
