If there is one thing that Bloooose  and Albion do better than  us its kits.

Kits by Adidas are good - don't think anyone could argue this point.

I want a traditional claret and blue home version and either a white with sky blue shorts or yellow shirt with blue shorts for our away.  Appears as usual that I am going to be disappointed.

Personally, I think adidas kits aren't all that, particularly the West Brom one. That and the Sturk one are as dull as it's possible to be.

Apart from the obvious defect e.g the colour and the simply facts it's them they have had very few poor ones as compared to ours. Possibly they have better control over there kits with their manufacturers.

You seem to pay a lot of attention to their kits. I have no idea if the royal blue is a true royal blue or if the blue in Albions is right. And frankly couldn't give one tenth of one fuck.

But you have to be honest and say Villa kits  are so often way off thee mark with our minimum expectations - my  argument is that whilst we are the biggest, the best and everything else in the West Midlands our history with kits stinks we got promoted back  into Div 1 in the late 80's.

Not sure the club are losing any sleep over it because they have sold our merchandising rights,  but nevertheless  imagine the tills ringing if only they produced a kit resembling the mid to late 70's  one with the round badge or the away kit from the 83 final.  Or even at a push the Championship kit.  I am no marketing  expert but if  I can spot these simple things, those in the know should be thinking they have won the lottery.  Just shows how detached the club is to the supporters.

The oroblem with all the complaints over the kit every year is that if we won the FA cuo wearing it it would become a classic straight away.

I guess we'll never know whether that's true. Sigh...

No, it's how detached they are from one supporter - you. What you want might strike a chord with others on here, but Villa Park isn't full of seventies/early eighties obsessives and many of our fans don't remember Brian Little as a manager never mind a player. That's who shirt designs are targeted at because there's more of them than us.

And that thing about merchandising rights - of course they care about how much they sell. Their revenue is based on it.

It would be great if it is actually claret and blue not the nasty purpley colour we so often end up with.

Yep. Last season my wife's friend and her American boyfriend visited us during a televised Villa away game. The American fella knew nothing about our football and hadn't seen a Villa kit before in his life. He said to me; " So you're supporting the team in the purple, right?"

A few things here:

1. All teams suffer from time to time with "poor kits" - a poor kit in my book is either one that is either diabolical or one which clearly detracts from their history and tradition.  But very few annoy their supporters so regularly.  The only clubs where I could see supporters pulling up tree trunks more than us, are Cardiff when their had the red kit, Crystal Palace who really do not know what colour they should be playing in and Manchester City.

Man City at least at the foresight to revise their badge to one that reflects their history.

2. Younger fans may not know Brian Little the footballer or manager but they are well versed  in the traditions and history.  We even miss a trick  with the 57 cup final shirt, - imagine the sales if Villa  marketed  that perhaps as a cup  shirt, sales would go  out the roof.  Arsenal and Man Ure have done the same in the past with reasonable success.

3. As for the badge -  okay for only for a relatively short period did we have the round  badge, but is is  commonly thought of  as a badge of success, only got to look at match day banners and how many of them incorporate the round badge.

4. The club as a minimum should only agree to a traditional claret and blue kit (with the possible exception as mentioned  above of the   57 kit.

Apart from West ham and their London badge, both them and Burnley as well as Hearts don't appear to have problems in producing  a Claret and where applicable claret/blue version or a plum/purple one.
