No I agree in the main. But we don't care about Gayle as he doesn't play for us. Play him/ don't play him - irrelevant to us. As for your prediction - why do you want us to reply to that? Its a predictions thread and as you've noticed the vast majority think you'll win. No one has posted any enmity towards other posters thinking you'll win. You probably will because you're currently better than us, it's at home and we're on a terrible run.

Yes, there will be enmity from the tiny minority of Villa fans but for a multitude of reasons. You'll also find many more that probably like Newcastle. I find myself as one of them. I couldn't give a shit about the original banner and thought it was crap if truth be told. But by Christ you have whinged on about it. By constantly bringing it up whenever we play you are allowing the media to whip up something that isn't there.

We, the fans, as you do as do all other fans, will jump to defend the 'honour' of their club. As you have post- banner and as we will when you go on about it because you really want to beat us because of it.  But the point from our side of the fence is forget about it. It was a banner and hilarity from our side 8 years ago. If you lot just shrugged it off as typical football fan 'banter' and realised that you were fair game then, and were last season, then this would be parked where it belongs right at the back of the Asda car park with no-one noticing.

But no you can't. Its almost as if you think you should be above being laughed at by a club that just wanted to laugh at a big club going down. It just happened that the big club was you and the club relegating the big club was us.

You don't care if the league's top goalscorer is back? I would. I would care if the opposition's best striker was back from injury for our game.

I didn't say I wanted anyone to reply to my predictions, I said that people have chosen to ignore the rest of the post and only react to the bit where I say that there remains some resentment towards some of your fanbase.

You're fundamentally not getting this; the media bring it up to sell papers/get clicks, which stirs the pot on both sides. You seem to insist that it's only the Newcastle fans who reference this, that's not the case. Villa fans bring up Newcastle fans not letting it go, Newcastle fans bring it up too.

This whole thread has been derailed because I mentioned in passing that Newcastle will be up for the game because there remains some resentment. That should have been that. But some of you are just as precious over those banners as some Newcastle fans are.

I myself think it's all a bit silly and it's a fabricated rivalry that will be forgotten soon enough.

Well, as you know, words on a screen from an anonymous contributor can be awfully hurtful so I'll be sure to share this with my therapist.

The media bring it up, it's a pathetic individual who made the banner but you come on here to tell us that then decide it's all a bit silly after all. Ah, ok.

I fear you've not read it through properly, or you've misunderstood?

;D I'm apoplectic, which is why I've resorted to name calling, swearing and capital letters which are common tells.

Imagine if we had done something really offensive, like burned effigies of the prophet Keegan.

Fat Quinn would have issued a fatwa, the Jawdies are revolting etc.

Aww, did the nasty Villa fans laugh at you?

What is it with stripes and being sad obsessives?

Well, one pretty pathetic individual took time out from painting his Warhammer soldiers to make two banners to celebrate our relegation. Just like no other fan of a team ever done. Joined in ridiculing a relegated side, sure, but going to the effort of making two banners to do that? Aberrant behaviour if you ask me.

Re: obsessives, this is stoked by local media, your papers and ours love to drag it up because it gets clicks/sells papers.

Embarrasing, I thought you Geordies were big hard fellas?
Football fans in holding a grudge shocker. I'm sure Villa fans don't harbour a grudge with players, managers, pundits or teams... right?

Let's be honest here.  Whoever sent Newcastle down in 08/09 was always going to have a laugh.  It just happened to be us.

Also last year, we expected to be well beaten by you lot at Villa Park as we were shite.  The fact you didn't, coupled with Sunderland beating Chelsea, meant we got to laugh again.

It's nothing personal, it's just the fixture computer gave us a giggle.

As for the game, 2-0 to Newcastle.  As easy a home win as Newcastle will have all season.

A laugh? Sure, going to the bother of making banners? No.

Outside of local rivals I can't think of any club's fanbase going to the bother of all that childishness.

We relegated Cardiff in 13/14 and after a short burst of "Going Down" we were back to being concerned with the running of our own club. No banners to mock Cardiff, only to protest our owner.

Are you sure, after typing all that you're not still upset?

We're on a 9 game winless streak, the moaning on here has been monumental.

Yet you have popped on and managed to be soppier than us all put together. You're top of the league, enjoy it you sad sack.

Mr Fish. We're Brummies. We're used to the whole country taking the piss out of us in the national media and through the BBC; the way we speak, the concrete shit hole we supposedly all live in, the fact that we're all thick, unsophisticated, boring etc. etc.

Pisstake is all around us and has been all our lives. So we've learnt how to dish it out as well as take it. Birmingham humour is irreverent and dry, but frequently quick and cutting, and quite often Birmingham and its people are the subject of it.

Maybe it's because nobody in Britain ever bothers to listen to us that one or two of our number decided to air their moderately amusing swipes on banners? Maybe we just don't take ourselves that seriously, so don't see any reason why anybody else should? Either way, it was a joke. Please, accept it in the manner it was intended.

Come back at us with some good old Geordie wit and we'll laugh, as we've done all our lives at ourselves, and we can forget all about this pathetic episode. Deal?

Well, you all seem a little sensitive about the whole thing so I'll apologise for upsetting you, it was never my intention.
