Doesn't mean each teams individual maximum points is incorrect, though.

yes if every game is won, but that table is a mathematical impossibility, we for instance still have to play wigan, blose blackburn and burton all on the list so thats 12 points that can't go on those teams totals.

It's a daft chart

I accept that there are some teams playing each other, and will adjust after the Wigan game. However to do that exercise needs to have all the fixtures for the division. If anyone else has the time to do this, then feel free.

The exercise of mathematically working out where you stand can be done on day one, but after that you have to take out the matches already played some of which will be relegation clashes.

I don't have a computer so even if I had the time I could not do it. But that is what you need to do.

As a rough guide it works OK. The only team we have nothing to worry about is Rotherham, we played them twice and they can't catch us. But for the rest, the matches with teams below us if they win them then they mathematically gain on us. How this plays needs more than a pocket calculator. Someone out their can do the maths.

But its the top line that matters. With 48 points Villa can still be caught. unlikely, and a win at Wigan makes it less likely. But not impossible as Leicester showed with their great escape.

Bristol City 2 up so they're closing the gap on SHA.

I think the thing to remember here is all the teams winning below SHA means the points tally to stay up increases.

I bet a few weeks ago them (and us) were thinking 46 points would be enough...at this rate you'll need 50 + points.

We will pass that in the next 3 games I reckon...given the form SHA are in currently, it will be a bit more hard work for them.

I posted in the Small Heath thread the other day that I think they're going down. Everyone below them seems capable of picking up a win or two all of a sudden. Zola is clueless, their fans are against him and negative towards the team and they can't win a game. Tough run in aswell.

Like Premier League teams assume 40 points is needed to avoid relegation, I've always thought you need 50 points in the Championship. With 44 points, I would have thought Blues would have too many to get pulled down. They'll sneak above 50 points. There's another 5 teams in the fight and they only have to be better than 4 of them.

Massive chance for Fulham tomorrow so you'd expect them to give the Wolves a beating.

Small Heath have got the worst goal difference down there aswell. Hopefully Newcastle stuff them tomorrow. They've still got to play Burton and Bristol City below them, lose both of them and they're in trouble. Just imagine them coming to us three games from the end of the season hovering just above the relegation zone, we smash them 5-1 again to give them a nudge towards the drop.

Bristol is the Noses last game of the season. I can see it going down to that with them.

Amazing to think just 22 days ago we had 36 points.

I know there's been a lot of games since but Wigan have 34 points and are all but relegated.

Thank goodness we've got our act together over the last three weeks.

I've just noticed small heath's goal difference is the second worst in the division after Rotherham's.

Dingles and Lamberk look to be safe.....on the other hand, the noses will be looking over their shoulder after defeat at Brighton on Tuesday night. The 23rd April will interesting as well....

Also interesting is that we play their relegation rivals Blackburn as our last away game, probably with nothing in it for us. Just saying.
