I don’t think this would be either a genius move or disaster/relegation scenario. For me it will be either a storming success or just meh. If it’s the latter then the new ownership won’t drag things on.
We all moan about wanting progressive football, based on pace and youth, modern thinking for a fresh approach. We have to start somewhere in terms of ‘risk’. Every managerial apt is a risk but sometimes we have to roll the dice to see if we can have that development.

I’ve been a big advocate of Dean Smith and wanted him in for 2 years now. Brentford fans have basically said it’s not just down to him it’s the clubs setup and moneyball teams. Therefore even he would represent a risk.

Never a dull day at B6 is it. Imagine being told 2 weeks ago we would be the 3rd wealthiest team in the country and be appointing Thierry Henry as manager 😳

Toast by lunchtime according to The Star.
Aren’t they supposed to be meeting him tomorrow?

It's one tactic to try and smoke out a comment from the new ownership or club. Having said that I feel the fact it is on the back page suggests there is no smoke and all that...

The key for me is a good start to the season which cost us in the end and helped Cardiff get the momentum needed for promotion. Of course you can also implode like Bristol City and Derby.

On Talk Shite news this morning it was quoted as saying - Henry has agreed in principle to join Aston Villa

Pro's

Big name in world football
Would attract lots of media attention
Potentially attract decent players
Could be inspirational for younger members of the squad - including JG
Does talk a good game as a pundit

Con's

Would attract lots of media attention - which could detract from the team  / club
Our Irish fans would hate the cheating fecker
Unproven at any level as coach - might be ok with world stars such as DeBrunye / Hazard et al but Taylor / Hutton etc?
Last time a club went for a big name it did not end well - Zola anyone?

Really not sure about this as already we have become big news again with the money potentially available but we could set ourselves up for a fall like with RDM (and he was at aleast an experienced coach) but I am also not sure about whether I could watch Bruce football and listen to the same old excuses

Tough one

I've been wanting Bruce out for a long time, but would be extremely apprehensive about appointing somebody as green as Henry in what is arguably our most important and uncertain season in the last 30 years.

Not saying Bruce is the man - he's not, really, and that hasn't changed - but it's striking to me that many were apprehensive about the likes of Dean Smith coming in. Well here we are potentially bringing in a manager who not only has no experience managing a big club, he's never managed any club. Never managed or played in the Championship. Probably hasn't had a reason to watch a single Championship game in the last several years.

Why would he take it? Why would we take him?

Questions abound.

Our new owners are, according to all the PR, football fans.  If their first major decision is to appoint an unproven manager who happened to once play for one of the Sky Four (as they were when he was banging in the goals), it will tell us a lot about the type of football fans they actually are.

As has already been said, this smacks of a big-name appointment for the sake of a big-name appointment and one that has little grounding in the reality of a Championship club with not much money to play with in the transfer market.

A stupid move if true. Why gamble on a a bloke that is basically a name...as a player. Not saying we should keep Bruce but at least go for someone with being a manager. Just as bad a Derby going for Lampard.

I think the one thing this does tell us, is they believe there is a way around FFP, rightly or wrongly, time will tell, but if it was Henry he would certainly want new players in and if there is a way around it, if it is not Henry fine, just make sure that money does not go to Bruce. We would probably still end up with Henry, but as our centre forward not manager.

Whilst I want Bruce gone appointing Henry will be a truly idiotic move. One that will end in tears come October.

If and when it happens, it'll be extremely important who he chooses for his coaching team. It's a big risk as a lot of appointments are, my main concern isn't his lack of experience, but when I see him on Sky he's seem as interesting and knowledgeable as Alan Shearer but with a sexier accent. The influence he could have on the young uns in the squad could be huge though and maybe this is what swayed our new over lords.

Henry was a great player and he seems like a top bloke but as manager of Aston Villa in this moment in time it will end in tears. He has no relevant experience so will not hit the ground running and it'll probably be too much for him anyway.
First crazy decision.

I'm not over keen on the idea of Henry but If they do appoint him
we'll have to pray that he learned something about management from Wenger.

I'm really not sure about this - sure Bruce is a dinosaur but he has turned things around. Henry is simply an enormous punt of the same scale that saw us in our bust situation now. It's almost wreckless to put what amounts to a managerial amateur in charge. Is there no-one else out there who can do a decent job?
