Sorry for the statto attack guys, John E is right, it's what you see that counts.  What Ads saw he obviously found entertaining, what I saw mostly wasn't. Guess we'll have to disagree.

The only game that really mattered in the end, the play off final, was monumentally unentertaining.  Unless you happen to enjoy goal kicks ricocheting off the keeper's sheriff's badge shaped boots straight to the Fulham defenders.

I'd be interested to know if you follow us home and away.

No.  I did in the late 60s and 70s and part of the 80s and 90s before I moved abroad.   These days I go occasionally because of lack of time, cost, and often lack of interest due to the tedium of the far on offer.  But I'm not sure what that's got to do with the discussion unless you are intending to play the "considerably better fan than yow" card.

I have a theory that watching games on TV and the disconnect that exists leads to a different view of a game.

I missed Man City away under Sherwood and watching it on TV made me incredibly testy and irritable. Watching England is the same.

I think not being there and having an ability to shout an invective or sing a song makes TV viewing a far more anxious and depersonalised experience.

I read the match threads sometimes and I cannot fathom what some are talking about or the conclusions reached. There's been ocassions where I've read "dull" and I don't get that either as I was absorbed either through a fear of conceding or something of the such like.

I think fundamentally watching football is bad for you, but watching it other than live amplifies it.

I'm a better fan than all you suckas, but that goes without saying. Prettier too.

I'd guess a lot of West Midlands and Geordie football fans found the final enormously entertaining as they laughed their tits off at us.

I guess what fans seen in the late 70s and early 80s set the bar. If Ads is happy with this season’s fun and I’ll agree with him it’s been better than the last 2 then all we’ll and good. However, finishing 4th in this division and having a bite at promotion and failing is a disastrous season given our predicament. Beat Wolves handsomly and then
fuck up 3 in a row? That’s where Bruce should have shown his worth. He didn’t.

I have to agree that you will be more absorbed and focused when at the game but that said I've often found the football itself as boring when sat at Villa Park as much as when watching on TV - e.g. most of the first half against Derby, although the second half was better.   And as I couldn't get a ticket for Wolves game I watched that on TV and found it thoroughly entertaining, not just because we got four, but because we played on the front foot and with a bit of style and movement, keeping the hoofaggio to a minimum.

This. We could all see we needed to utilise our squad in those games. An experienced manager hired for his promotion smarts made a rookie mistake...... and then repeated it...... and repeated it.

It cost us promotion and has seriously left us in the shit.

The hope for me is that he came out and admitted it and will learn from it. The other hope is that rather than picking the players in form for the final, he picked the players that got us there over the course of the season. Picking Jedinak was a mistake, it should have been Bjarnasson who has a better engine. Adomah and Hourihane were woefully out of form, Hogan coming on out of form as well probably should have been Davis. Onomah had been brilliant in the 2 games before, Kodjia without scoring had been looking massively dangerous and should have started instead of Albert and Possibly Hourihane.

I know this is all hindsight but im not paid 3m a year to get decisions right

Main problem for me is we just didn't change the style, maybe we couldn't with the personnel.

Sitting off Boro worked well because we knew we'd get the ball back soon enough with them lumping it from the back.

Awful strategy v Fulham as just sitting off them allowed them to get into their stride and that resulted in their good goal. We needed to be in their faces from first minute and actually attempt an attack or two.

The thing was, the majority of fans had been talking in the lead up to the match that this was not the way to play against Fulham. If fans (that are not paid £3m) can see it, why not the manager.

the main thing that I came across discussed  was that they do not score first or we have had it and ……….. now we are bankrupt

We train like that during the week so that's why it happens on matchday.

Or SB just told us to keep things tight for the first 15 minutes and certainly that mindset seeps in for the whole half.

If you were in any way good looking or charismatic, surely you'd be at the bar and not a mere solicitor?

😘
