I wouldn’t hit anyone with anything but if we’re going to let the team screwing up affect whether we enjoy winning then there’s really no point in supporting anyone is there?

Hey I’m daft enough to pay upfront every year with no idea how it’s going to go but I’ll accept that by the end of the season that we won’t have played 46 and won 46.

No, of course we won't.

But it's also not much use for us to beat the top 3 at Villa Park if we can't manage to beat the likes of Brentford home or away. We'd feel better about it collectively, maybe, if we could honestly say we've performed to the best of our abilities in 46 out of 46 games, but that's not always been the case has it?

I obviously hold out hope that we'll go up via the play-offs, but if we do so I'll be thanking lady luck, because we've made it unnecessarily hard for ourselves time and again this season.

Agree on the inconsistency of it all but everybody is going to have to rely on an element of lady luck whether it’s us or Liverpool for example.

So how am I supposed to celebrate Jacks worldly last night or Sam’s world class reaction saves or Grabban’s Cowansesque ball for Conor?
Allocate 10 seconds of wild madness then calm down and resent the lot of them because they didn’t do it enough on Saturday? Can’t do it I’m afraid. Norwich, Bolton and Hull and all the rest have gone.

What’s the phrase? If my Aunty had bollocks she’d be my Uncle?

I don’t regard last night’s victory as hollow because of ifs and buts. I’ll regard it as a great win against one if the ugliest football units since Wimbledon.

I can see where he's coming from though. I was jumping up mancially at Jack's great goal, I was delighted at the final whistle in beating a rival who we could yet meet again next month.

However walking back I was frustrated that victory hadn't taken us a point clear of Cardiff rather than 4 points behind them still. They also have a game in hand so it could easily go back to 7 points. That's probably the hollow aspect of things.

With the fixtures since Wolves we should be where Fulham are.

big wow. win when it doesn't matter. who cares?

The 30,000 who were there tonight probably did.

more fool them. adds insult to injury imo. We don't just play wolves and cardiff to go up

I enjoyed it. More fool me. You almost sound gutted we won.

Bruce haters hate it when we win as they are only happy when they are hating on Bruce.  More fool the idiots who call themselves Villa fans who are miserable when we win.

As far as I'm concerned I'll enjoy a Villa victory regardless of who it's against as winning is what Football and sport in general is about. If you don't enjoy victories then you have got to ask yourself whether sport is for you because what is the point in bothering if you don't enjoy it when we win.

Well i'm not going to respond to the the first bit. I left school 30 odd years ago so i suggest you keep it for the playground.

I'm annoyed because we had a great chance to overtake cardiff in April. I predicted they'd fade in these games and that's just what happened - 1 point in 9 in fact. By all means celebrate winning but its a pretty hollow victory in my mind. Beating cardiff so fulham can take advantage is a lot different from beating cardiff so we can take advantage. If we'd managed to get motivated against QPR, Hull, Norwich and bolton instead of saving it for the select bunch of teams above us then we'd quite possibly be looking at a 2 point lead over cardiff this morning and it would have been game on. As it is, people treating it like some sort of moral victory against Mr Anti-football, well no-one will care or remember if we're still in this division come May.

I have raised a glass to the mighty Villa and, whilst recognising that some fans take refuge in a sort of nihilistic realism for emotional support in a time of imminent divisional flux

Can we suggest this as a possible tweet for Dr X?

Good luck to him if you do, it needs resolving after the ‘whilst’ !

All this grow up and playground stuff is getting a bit tedious but I am struggling to understand how us winning doesn't mean we're taking advantage.

Well i'm not sure how you want me to respond to "you want villa to lose" posts Dave. Sounds pretty childish to me so that's how i call it.

I'm struggling to understand  how we will take advantage of this win really. Doesn't mean a bit of difference to getting automatically atm unless Fulham and Cardiff have a complete collapse in the last 4 games and we become unbeatable. I know some people are obsessed on who we get in the play-offs and when, but as i said last night, you  have to beat them all at some point to win it and i'm sure the likes of Liverpool and Roma would agree

We're taking advantage because last night virtually sealed a place in the play-offs, it put an end to a nasty run of poor form, gave us a psychological edge over a potential play-off opponent and gave a boost to our hopes of playing the second leg at home.

And if you're criticising anyone who celebrated the Villa winning, which you have repeatedly, then maybe you should give this place a miss.

Well one advantage of last night’s win is that it helps keep us in 4th place which would mean a second leg play off match at Villa Park. That’s important wether you accept it or not.

Isn't that the point though, you don't.

Huddersfield won the playoffs without beating anyone.

I think it would be more accurate to say that they got promoted without winning any of their play-off games in the allotted playing time. They still had to beat Sheffield Wednesday and Reading albeit on penalties to go up. It's like saying that we didn't beat Bolton to get to the 2000 Cup Final .

The number 26 didn't play last night and we won. I'm surprised Agnew hasn't been given the credit for the result, that's how it works isn't it?
