We definitely need to be identifying options now.

I like Smith, but I wonder if he's better suited to a 2-3 year project of building a team. That's what I think we should be doing. But the clubs strategy again seems to be short term w all these loans - or at least predicated on going up and then signing them or others.

So someone who can come in and energise and give a proper structure to what on paper is the most talented attack in the league seems a more logical fit.

Really don't know who that is though.

People saying Eddie Howe or similar are deluded in my view

Apart from the obvious qualities of intelligence and communication skills the most important thing a new manager can bring to Villa Park is a massive network of connections in football especially beyond the hothouse of inflated player prices in the UK.  We have to be in the mix for top class talent,  not mopping up has beens. Once the FFP mess has been sorted out we need the new owner's financial clout to be brought to bear on the fact that our players cannot or will not deliver what they are paid to deliver.

Made an immediate improvemen to Walsall who were dead certs for relegation.
A half decent manager will improve this side.Bruce's teams don't look to pass through midfield and yet we have the best midfield in the league.
The sooner the better for a new managerial appointment.Even if he's not here for the long term, there is also an avoidance of the damage that Bruce's dinosaur approach must be doing to the Academy players.Despite the mediocre results ,are any of Bree,Doyle-Hayes,RHM or O'Hare likely to be picked ?Several others have been loaned out, which is fine for their development but ironically probably not for their Villa careers under SB.

Don't know why he hasn't given Bree an extended run in the side.

Bree or Elmo at right back for me we just can't waste an attacking position any longer with the latter playing wide right.

His and Calderwood’s complete non reaction to Hot Lips’ equaliser says it all, they know their on a game to game contract almost.

To quote Brick Top, ‘you’re on thin fucking ice my pedigree chums and I shall be under it when it breaks, now fuck off’ if only.

When you look at the players available Bruce could be the most tactically inept manager we have had in a very long time. Not just that his squad planning is beyond a joke.

Useless.

If he doesn't change that for Rotherham at home he's Never gonna do it

Not sure what else is left to say on this topic. Tactically inept, all the players look out of sorts, play far too deep, after a generous set of fixtures we are mid table, woeful away record....anything else I'm missing ??

It does feel like someone has suggested we need to be more attacking this season. Devoid of any ideas of how to implement an attacking style, Bruce has just gone out and bought attacking players.
You would be forgiven thinking that the instructions to those players is lads do those attacking things, But the lack of cohesion between the players doesn't suggest any sort of strategy.

That article in the Guardian about Bruce from 7 years ago is constantly running through my mind, its so spot on. Bruce believes that motivation is the key to management and don't we just know it.
