Depends how much it's losing. Or if the landlords are trying to screw us because we're Villa and they thought we'd pay it.
It's nothing to do with the Landlords.

The rent was £205,000 pa, the business rates approx £72,000 pa and a small service charge - less than £5k pa.

There was a few years left on the lease with a legal right to renew at market rent.

This was purely a commercial decision.

And a correct one then. At those costs I'd be surprised if that shop has ever made the club a penny. Another one of our previous owners vanity projects.

To be fair to all concerned, when the first shop opened Mark Ansell said that it it broke even they'd be happy - the main idea was to provide an additional service. I can't remember when it moved to New Street but the general concensus then was that it was good to be in a more high-profile place. Times and shopping patterns change.

I was just trying to remember myself when it moved.

I remember yourself when it moved.

You were a bit younger and a lot happier about The Villa.

so where did the shop move from ? as I only remember there being a "outlet" next to the noses in the bottom part of the Co-op in town, unless my memory is playing tricks which would not be the first time :)

That part of New Street looks a bit down at heel, particularly since BHS went ponto.

I've only ever been in to the shop once, they didn't have what I wanted then. But I'm not one to run around bedecked in merchandise to be fair.

You're both talking about the same place. Chris probably doesn't remember when it was the Co-op.

Poor move by the villa. Surely the shop would attract young kids dragging their parents in, beginning a lifetime love affair with everything claret and blue

I would have team up with Blues, Wolves, Albion, Walsall and Warwickshire Cricket Club and form a small chain of sport shops together. It amazed me no one thought of doing this.

If it did it wouldn't have closed. The world's changed and kids don't get dragged Up Town by their mom on Saturday afternoon any longer.

Right, I need to have words with my mother, I knew it wasn't compulsory. Thanks Dave.

I used to negotiate a Wimpey out of it, or else I'd play up.

Considering we all complained for years that Doug run the club with a `corner shop mentality` we should be pleased.

That's good. How'd you do that Cruyff turn on the capital " R" then ?
