Villa shop in New St now closed
« on: January 23, 2017, 11:14:33 PM »
Heads up for those who used it - the Villa shop in New St is permanently closed from today.  Bit of a shame as I'd always get tickets in there in cash to avoid booking fees.

Its a shame that in the city the size of ours there is not enough business for a club like the Villa to keep a presence in the centre.

Used it a lot over the years, they had some great staff in there that were a credit to the club that were made redundant under the old owners. Unless it's losing a fortune, it's disappointing not to have a presence in such a prominent place in the city centre.

Disappointing. Perhaps more a symbol of our increasingly online World, rather than a sign of Villa failing to sell themselves properly.

Feel sorry for the staff.

It's not about selling stuff though it was all about the Villa having a presence in a prime spot in our city centre. Even if it costs a million pounds it's worth having IMO.

You're right. If a shop's losing money you don't keep it open.

Surprised people haven't bombarded Tone with tweets about this. They usually complain to him if their pie was a bit cold at the match.

That sorry Dave, is bollocks, call it a loss leader if you wish but we have to think of the future.
I see more and more MU, L, MC, even Leicester on a weekly basis, we need to let the city and others know who we are.

The "support of the future" are far more likely to do their shopping online than the older generations.

Depends how much it's losing. Or if the landlords are trying to screw us because we're Villa and they thought we'd pay it.

That's a shame for the staff if anything. Sorry to see it go but it must have been losing money for them to have made a decision like that.

What's bollocks, as you charmingly called it, is thinking that having a shop that's invariably empty, surrounded by tat shops and all you can eat buffets,  is going to encourage anyone, young or old, to give an extra thought to the Villa. Twenty years ago, maybe. Now, not a chance.

Probably not the right way to express my feelings, but we really need to keep a high profile in the city centre, especially now.
